Apartment in Shanghai Modern Atmosphere Recreated in a Duplex Apartment in ShanghaiInspired by the urban, cosmopolite vibe of Shanghai, SKEW Collaborative redesigned the Wulumuqi Road Apartment. Located at the top-floor of a residential building, the flat, a dull and rigid living space with industrial influences suffered several design transformations to become this dynamic, super-sophisticated home. The core of it remains simple but there are a couple of distinctive new elements that caught our eye: the minimalist furniture, the openness and last, but not least, the edgy geometry displayed throughout the loft. The apartment's addition, an attic, was completely renewed. It now accommodates the bedroom and a more private study area.

Extrapolating design and architectural possibilities, the team responsible with the renewal of the flat played with the attic's angular geometry and figured out a way to create a unitary living space by putting the roof's geometric pattern into the ceiling, walls and staircase, display a series of overlapping triangles. "This project connects more deeply to the socio-economic roots of its surroundings by searching out the old generation of trades and craftsmen who could not only put their skills to good use, but also rebuild with recycled materials from a city undergoing rapid demolition and transformation.”

Secluded VR House Conversing with the Outdoors in Mexico

Deck of the VR Tapalpa house Secluded VR House Conversing with the Outdoors in MexicoEach and every one of us needs time to disconnect from routine and try every now and then to embark on a trip away from the ordinary. Naturally, spending some time in the remote isolation of nature brings inner peace, fully relaxing the body and mind. The new secluded VR House designed by Elias Rizo Arquitectos in Tapalpa, Mexico is a wonderful place… to hide. The dwelling built from stone of local extraction converses with the outdoors and uses only local materials, to enhance the rustic feel.

VR House Secluded VR House Conversing with the Outdoors in Mexico"The program is arranged on four quadrants, which are defined by the intersection of two main circulation axes. Within this system, spaces are distributed according to privacy requirements and affinity." The residence featuring two levels is bisected transversely in two different zones: private and public. Within the private area there are 3 bedrooms, a family room and several service areas. This side (south) showcases few openings. The public zone, however, embraces light (walls being replaced with glass panels) allowing easy access to the deck.
