| Weekend Family Home Incorporating Green Features by David Jay Weiner Posted: 22 Mar 2014 10:22 PM PDT  Overlooking the Berkshire Hills and the beautiful lake located nearby, Berkshire Pond House is a wonderful weekend family home completed by architect David Jay Weiner in Becket, Massachusetts. The dwelling “was conceived as a folded volumetric sheet enclosure that wraps and folds into itself to form and define the major interior spaces, and tie the house with the landscape.” Built strategically on a densely wooded sloping site, the property, a neat cantilevered house, challenges the inhabitants to explore visually the surroundings and spend peacefully their leisure time. The house’s design is both, sustainable and economical (in construction and maintenance).
 The use of recyclable materials was a priority when building the house. Green features aside from the materials, include also a cooling system, solar collectors to supplement the grid system and a closed loop geothermal heating system. The weekend retreat spreads over three levels, providing excellent separation of the space. The ground floor is mainly used for entertainment purposes. An adjacent terrace acts as an outdoor room for children. The first floor comprises the social rooms, including a kitchen, a dining/ living room. Top floor accommodates the master bedroom, children’s bedrooms and bathrooms.

| Dramatic All-White Renovated Apartment in Moscow by Vladimir Malashonok Posted: 22 Mar 2014 12:59 PM PDT  This dramatic all-white renovated apartment is the work of Vladimir Malashonok. Located in the very heart of Moscow, it’s one of those gorgeous living spaces that highlight style and class. The Russian designer remodelled the place for a family of two with a limited budget, therefore, some of the materials used were really simple and inexpensive (laminated panels, tiles, gypsum). Despite the excessive use of white, there are a series of features that create a “wow” effect. Contrasting and dynamic forms and shapes (light fixtures and chandeliers, cut-outs and furnishing details), dominate the interior.
 A home can be gorgeously decorated with little money and still inspire elegance and sophistication. Having a place that glows does not mean that one has to invest a fortune in it. It means to find the right people to work.“The renovated space includes the hall, guest lavatory, combined kitchen/living room/dining room, the cabinet, the master bedroom with a bathroom and a gym. The designer's aim was to create a minimalistic but dramatic interior, putting together the dynamic and contrast shapes and the functional space itself.”
