Villager 8 Deck Simplicity and Tastefulness: Villager 8 in Aspen, Colorado

Villager 8 was designed by Rowland + Broughton Architecture and is located in Aspen, Colorado. Here is the description we received from the architects: “Having already completed four full interior renovations for homeowners at Aspen's Villager Townhomes, plus an exterior renovation for the entire property, R+B jumped at the opportunity to acquire one of the units in the complex. The complete renovation of the space gave us the chance to test out new sustainable concepts and materials.Walls are insulated with recycled denim and FSC certified lumber is used for framing. Wood floors and mill- work throughout is created with FSC certified wood and non-formaldehyde glue. New energy efficient mechanical equipment, lighting, and energy star appliances replace outdated ones. Sustainable interior finishes sweep through the space in a consistent spa-inspired palette that brings serenity to every day life”. We really like the clean, sober feel of this place as well as its simple and tasteful lines. What is your stand regarding the design of this crib?

alarm iPhone Turned into Traditional Alarm Clock by Jonas Damon

It is incredible how the iPhone keeps generating ideas, even four years after its release in 2007. We really liked this particular concept of an iPhone dock which is why we decided to share it further. Designed by Jonas Damon, the Areaware Alarm Clock take a classic approach and reminds one of the old alarm clocks that used to wake us up about two decades ago. The simple and elegant design of the iPhone has a great correspondent in this creative wooden support and together they seem to blend perfectly. Areaware Alarm Clock is easy to integrate in any interior due to its minimalist form. Eye-catching and witty, here is an alarm clock that suits the needs of iPhone enthusiasts, without any aesthetic compromise. The product is available for purchase online here, for $35.

Transparency, Reflection, Ecology and Security: DD California Home

California HomeFreshome 20 Transparency, Reflection, Ecology and Security: DD California Home

DD Southern California Home was designed by Peggy Dupuis, interior designer, Dale Naegle, Architect and her husband, a civil engineer and international builder. Here is the information Peggy sent us:  “The property, its ocean view, its north west orientation and setting sun provided  plenty of inspiration. The two story contemporary home offers an amazing view from each room, along with a spectacular rooftop terrace, where on a clear day you can actually view the coastline of Mexico. TRANSPARENCY and REFLECTION is omnipresent due to its surrounding large glass windows, glass doors, a void space in the center of the house, well-planned natural and articial lighting and the use of reflective materials throughout. It's interior, with its spectacular curves, contrast with the very geometric external view.  The decoration and its furnitures are refined, using a blackened white, grey, graphite, black, stainless steel along with the use of solid oak wood furnitures, entry door and parquet floor. One of the centerpieces of this house is the 7 meter curved wall with decorative sand base red paint, done by Peggy herself, which added warmth to this house.

The red paint around the main door entrance, adds a note of welcome for the guests. The home was designed for a maximum SECURITY in case of sismique incident or landslide.  In addition to the strict city building codes, her husband required the foundation be realised using a structural slab with deepened footing extending into bedrock. This along with structural steel moment frame, common in commercial design and custom home’s with large areas of glass exteriors. Particularly sensitive to ECOLOGICAL constraint, Peggy Dupuis designed the interior for low energy consumption, ecological materials and comfort.”

Imposing House Displaying Interesting Volumes and Materials

Mount Baker Residence Imposing House Displaying Interesting Volumes and Materials

The Mount Baker Residence in Seattle, Washington is one of the best works of Pb Elemental Architecture. Featuring a narrow and tall structure, the house unveils a dynamic urban character. Situated on a steep sloped terrain, the house’s architecture makes use of the environment instead of fighting it. Tall, column-like windows on the sides of the house capture framed views and steal a few sunbeams. Reaching up for the sky, the 2,470 square feet home features four bedrooms and two and a half baths. A large open plan living room connects the outside world to the family life and gathers friends and family around the coffee table. From the roof terrace, a clear panorama of the surroundings can be enjoyed at dusk. The architects explain the correlation between the volumes and materials used for the facade: “The structure was conceived as the juxtaposition of three pure volumes, each containing a unique programmatic element. Each element is emphasized by material cladding; cedar panel, cement board, concrete, and marine plywood.” The very glossy and presentable pictures show the house in a great light maybe because they were taken right before the house went on the market. But the architecture can serve as inspiration for those of you who like a narrow house typology.

Exceptionally Planned House for an Expanding Family: Matsuki Residence

Matsuki Residence Exceptionally Planned House for an Expanding Family: Matsuki Residence

The Matsuki Residence is a modern and exceptionally planned house, designed by Hong Kong based HEAD Architecture and Design. The contemporary and versatile spaces you can see in the pictures used to be part of two smaller apartments. These were transformed into a versatile entertaining space and a comfortable and chic private bedroom and bathroom. Working on a tight budget and time limit, the architects created “a new home for a new family, in which the rituals of family life – bathing, playing, eating, sleeping – can be thoroughly re-evaluated, with an open-plan sequence of simple flexible spaces facilitating the informal flow and changing requirements of an expanding family.” Based on the growing family motif, the walls and space were created as a minimalist canvas on which each member of the family will leave his or her personal print. Windows frame the beautiful views or they can be covered if the family wants to enjoy a movie. A large modular sofa ensures enough room for the extended family and their guests and it can be reconfigured depending on the needs. The bedroom has an airy atmosphere, featuring only the crucial furniture elements. An astounding bathroom was created with the help of round architectural elements. Every inch of this house was carefully planned to be a starting point in the inhabitant’s new life together.
