| Intriguing Residence of Various Design Rhythms: River Road House Posted: 17 Jan 2011 07:00 AM PST The River Road house was designed by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects and is located in Sewall's Point, Florida. Its exterior is quite diverse, as this home showcases a series of well defined volumes united in an intriguing composition. The home stretches over an area of 12,300 square feet and is enriched by a generous pool. Everything was thoroughly planned: Interior spaces are carefully orchestrated to conceal and reveal dramatic views to the water. Surprise and delight are amplified by skillful interior and exterior framing. In the same way, the arrangement of program and use moves inhabitants through a logical gradient from public to private space, from activity to slumber, from conviviality to introspection. At either end of the longitudinal axis that connects the two domestic partitions, separate stairways enhance circulation and provide discrete access to the three-storied parapets. According to the architects, the structures can remind one the canvases belonging to famous painter Georges Braque, due to the fact that geometric forms appear and disappear in a constant dance of illusion and materiality.

| Fluffy Modern Rugs from Piodao Group: Waves and Capitonné Posted: 17 Jan 2011 04:51 AM PST You probably remember Tufted, a brand name which stands for the Pixel Rug, an explosion of colors which we displayed on Freshome not too long ago. Here are two other exquisite models from Portuguese company Piodao Group: Waves and Capitonné. The first collection is a vivid one, consisting in colorful products inspired by water ripples. Each rug has the power of instantly cheering up an interior while adding warmth and personality. A short description from the manufacturers reveals that the Capitonné collection is inspired by the days of classic romanticism century XVIII and that it is boldly showcasing its details with luxury and sophistication. Their hand carved finishes provide a look that is nothing short of a work of art. The traditional "Capitone" pattern is probably familiar to most people as an (upholstered) sofa finishing design.

| Massive Hilltop Residence in Rio de Janeiro with a Complex Architecture Posted: 17 Jan 2011 03:36 AM PST This concrete residence comes from SPBR Architects and is located in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At a first glance, one can only feel overwhelmed by this imposing building, situated on a hill top. Here is a description from the architects concerning this home’s structure: At the lower level, there is a linear block that leads to the bedrooms and the office. Their main glass facade opens up to the enjoying garden on the east side. The roof was designed to make a complementary ground on the upper plateau. The living room is located over the higher plateau providing a view of downtown on the north side and of the Guanabara Bay and Pão de Açucar on the south. This volume is closed on the east and west sides to avoid sun heat and to emphasize the magnificent views on the other sides. It leaves the level below completely open. Thus, there is a bare level between bedrooms and living room which is filled by the kitchen, where, according to the traditional Brazilian culture, most people will spend their spare time. What is your personal opinion on this design? Do you believe this type of residence could provide an appealing living environment?
