| Nature Playing a Key Role in Design: Casa Veintiuno in Mexico Posted: 03 May 2014 01:30 AM PDT Guadalajara-based studio, Hernandez Silva Architects designed Casa Veintiuno, a 531 sq. meters residence, within the metropolitan area of the city. The venue feels open and transparent, with a large void at the centre to remind of an old Spanish-like patio. It almost feels like you're exploring the wonders of a garden rather than walking throughout a house. The central opening, which represents the core of this project, connects all three levels. A glass roof completes the architectural expression, allowing natural light to fall through the living zones and eventually create a bright home environment. Designed as an open space, the terrace integrates wonderfully with the living. Vegetation plays a key role in design. A green wall runs along one of the internal walls whilst a tree was planted right in the middle of this open anteroom. Nature seems to have invaded this space, showing its supremacy over the artificial, man-made created space. "The house is made with few materials, concrete walls in some volumes, plastered walls, Piacentina stone and Cumarú wood in some coverings. The carpentry was made in parota with horizontal wood grains to produce a dramatic use of this extraordinary wood. The house wouldn't have much furniture; therefore some elements were incorporated to the architecture, one of them being the sideboard, a high gloss white wooden body, whose modulation is related to the stone covering." | New York Triplex Showcasing an Imposing Double-Height Living Zone Posted: 02 May 2014 01:19 PM PDT This 2,400 square foot New York triplex located in the Upper East Side of New York City, USA was envisioned by Turett Collaborative Architects as an imposing home meant to accommodate the living needs of a single owner. Featuring a double-height entry foyer and a large living room, the minimalist apartment displays a majestic, almost dramatic appearance softened by a variety of inspiring decorating items. According to the designers, a unique feature of the condominium is the two-story Vals quartzite stone wall that “runs along the west side of the apartment, with stones that were handpicked by the owner and architect from a remote Swiss quarry. Cantilevered built-in shelves create a table and night stand, while niches in the stone wall are reserved for the client's various toiletries”. The black oxidized steel staircase acts as the backbone of the apartment, linking the three floors together. A suspended platform above the living room offers a good spot for reading and contemplation. The design of this opulent New York retreat is completed by an idyllic landscaped roof terrace and sun-deck.

| Fresh Residential Project Features an Eclectic Design in Toronto Posted: 02 May 2014 09:01 AM PDT No 210 is a fresh residential project defined by Buildall Homes Inc. in Toronto, Canada. Contemporary and eclectic, the interior encourages experimentation in terms of design. From extravagant light fixtures, to translucent plastic chairs, modern artwork and unpolished (shabby-chic) furniture items – this living space exudes a distinctive elegance. Social area includes the living room and kitchen divided by a dining table and a countertop with mint green mini seats. Despite the peculiar combination of styles, the interior looks fashionable and feels cozy. A set of stairs leads you to the bedroom, located at the mezzanine. It’s interesting how the old fuses with the new. The pipes became part of the décor. As a matter of fact, metallic details play a significant role in decoration. Not only it’s used to bring industrial architectural elements into your kitchen, but also to highlight the character and sophistication of industrial chic present throughout the all house. There’s a thing with neutrals – soft earthy cues of colour encompass the entire living area. Do you think industrial details add a sense of refinement to your home?
