Russian designers Anna Strupinskaya and Alexey Ivashkevich have presented their new product Symphony Lamp Chandelier during Milan Design Week 2014. The concept of the chandelier explores the connection between light and sound waves and their resemblance. For this project, light, color and sound are visualized in three interlaced spatial ribbons.

The ribbons of translucent silicone imitate rows of tubes that contribute to the perception of the musical instruments theme: “We`ve continued our experiments with silicone as we love the translucency and color overlaying effects that this material provides. And its flexibility is important as well“, the two designers stated. Anna and Alexey started their creative collaboration in Moscow more than 10 years ago. Their area of expertise includes product design and light design, as well as interior and transportation design. How would you comment on this particular item in their portfolio?

An imposing Example of Modern Brazilian Architecture: Planalto House

Planalto House was conceived by São Paulo based office Flavio Castro as an urban residence for a couple with two children and is an example of contemporary Brazilian architecture. The way of appropriation of the 800 square meters available for the establishment of the house (20x40m) is quite clear. Two large perpendiculars volumes mark the territory and categorize the uses and functions of other areas on the land.

A rectangular prism, perpendicular to the street, contains the intimate features of the house on the upper floor, occupying only half of the land and releasing the other half for recreation and landscaping. Serving as a support and focused only on the main floor, another rectangular prism, but in different proportions, contains the service and social functions. The characteristics of the materials used in this residence as chromaticism, texture and transparency were carefully chosen depending on the intentions pursued for each space. Perfect Place for the Summer: Cristal House near Lima, Peru

Enhancing the feeling of belonging to a place where the sky joins the sea, the residential project captured below in pictures, was designed by Gómez De La Torre & Guerrero as a tranquil summer retreat for the body, mind and soul. Symbolically dubbed the Cristal House (Lima, Peru), the breathtaking villa emphasises the idea of full transparency, drawing in the sunlight. With natural light filling the double height living room, which by the way, forms the central part of the house and an elongated terrace with jacuzzi and pool lounge area to enable beautiful sea vistas, Cristal House is a wonderful place to indulge and relax.

According to the architects, the terrace "has a differentiated floor, a deck, where there is a jacuzzi and a retractable roof, made of translucent polycarbonate and aluminum, that will remain open in the summer and when closed, it will protect the house when it is uninhabited. In winter it protects from the cold, fostering a warm and lit atmosphere." Originally, the house was intended to serve as a summer gathering place, yet the owners decided to move here permanently. Spreading over three levels, the house features a six-car garage, a kitchen with pantry, several small bedrooms and a master bedroom overlooking the sea, additional laundry for beachwear and last, but not least, a spectacular terrace to spend the evenings.

Captivating Indoor-Outdoor Interplay: Float House in Tel Aviv

Float House in Tel Aviv, Israel is an interesting residential project focused on a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. Envisioned by Pitsou Kedem Architect, the 5,920 square-foot (550 sqm) property was perfectly adapted to living needs of a modern family: “The architectural concept was to create a structure with a continuous, wide space, divided by internal courtyards and movable partitions into smaller spaces used for a variety of different functions”, explained the project developers.

A swimming pool studded with large basalt rocks and trees that seem to float on water greet visitors upon arrival. By using large windows instead of walls, the designers managed to deliver spacious and fresh interiors, flooded in natural light. Elegant finishes throughout and minimalist arrangements create modern spaces for living and contemplation. Exuding comfort and serenity, the en-suite bedrooms are particularly appealing.
