| Angular Roof Design Shaping a Stylish Family Home Posted: 22 May 2014 12:08 AM PDT A beautiful family home with angular roof design rises in Australia’s Canberra hills. With “different activities within the house uniquely expressed on the exterior“, the angular roof home known as the Narrabundah House conveys the feeling of a good life. By designing angular roof canopies adorning the front and back terraces, the architect managed to showcase an invitation through architecture. The facade angular room seems to funnel in the views, while the backgarden angular design lines funnel out to the garden. It seems to me like this house takes in urban stress only to exude peace and tranquility the way a tree breathes in carbon dioxide and breathes out life-maintaining oxygen. A 100-year-old eucalyptus tree on the property anchors this idea. A central hallways separates the living area from the resting spaces: “The living areas open to the north at the rear, harnessing the winter sun and addressing an elegant eucalypt. At the front they twist dramatically to the south east, catching beautiful views over Scott St and across rolling country towards the distant Cuumbuen Nature Reserve.” Thanks to photos by Michael Downes of UA Creative, we can enjoy Australian architect’s Adam Dettrick work of modern art with fantastic living functions. Built by Innovative Building Projects, this immaculately designed modern home is also friendly with nature. “Sustainability principles and simple passive design techniques underpin the environmental performance of this home, with good orientation, sun shading, double glazing, heavy insulation and non-toxic materials combining to provide year round comfort and liveability. Exterior materials are utilitarian – chosen for their robustness, character and economy.” Some are adventurous with their home design. Are you one for geometric playfulness in architecture? | Fascinating Origami House with Architectural Comfort Pockets Posted: 21 May 2014 01:32 PM PDT Architect Yoshiaki Tanaka of TSC Architects used 146 square meters of indoor space to create a home that responds to its owner's needs. At the same time, the Origami House in Japan's Mie prefecture is also imagined to withstand wind pressure and earthquakes. Built for a young married couple, the inviting home in an old village surrounded by mountains incorporates the landscape in its architecture. Also, the Japanese culture comes into play when creating the structure. On a compact lot of only 251 square meters, architects imagined this highly modern shape inspired by origami – the art of paper folding. There already was a round stone wall built there by one of the couple's grandfather, so the new Origami House and all its elements was introduced into this inherited site. The architect explains how the project came to life: "Therefore I decided to leave the stone wall of the site and, on the foundation stone, hung the roof which I folded like origami and thought about the earth and the form of the house where I could live all in one body." The origami roof rises like a tent, creating protective spaces that translate into culture-specific mental comfort for the family. Varied functions make this origami-inspired design a valuable concept: "It controls sunlight and takes in wind and, besides, makes half outdoors space. This house creates new scenery while inheriting the memory of the village ." The post Fascinating Origami House with Architectural Comfort Pockets appeared first on Freshome.com. |

A thoroughly extension was applied in order to provide the family with more space, as they dreamed of: “It is the first time of working with detail in accordance to building code and regulations on Norwegian soil. This resulted in 30 cm thick walls and roofs half a meter in thickness.” Captured in photos by Pasi Aalto, the architectural structure was completely left up to the architects and they did a wonderful, provocative job: “On the ground floor the project created a spacious entry area with a combined bath- and laundry-room. The second floor of the addition adds a new multi-purpose room with a high ceiling. This constitutes a break with the monotonous section common to this type of house from the 1950s. The distribution of functions, answering to different needs, contributes to the particular shape of this addition. “ Would you enlarge your existing home or just buy a larger house?
