Clara is an armchair with ottoman envisioned by Mexican designer Ricardo Casas. Despite its raw appearance, the project inspires elegance and evokes traditional craftsmanship. The designers also assured us that it feels quite comfortable. The Iri Lamp by Shift Creative is a reflection on man's long history with the most basic and natural form of generating light: fire. Its design derives from a bonfire's basic setup, the shape and form of a flame, but also echoes on the way we consume resources to create light and energy.

| Mirroring Nature’s Everlasting Beauty: House Boz in South Africa Posted: 09 Apr 2014 12:27 PM PDT Imagined by architect Werner van der Meulen as occupying a blessed hilly plot within a secluded nature estate in Pretoria, South Africa, this impressive 777 square meter residence blends steel, glass and concrete with perfectly manicured laws and reflecting water surfaces. The owner wanted a spacious home with a luxurious feel and Nico van der Meulen Architects played a key role in materializing this dream home. They envisioned and built a home focusing on the living room design, creating a visual correspondence between the inviting outdoor and the open yet cozy interior spaces. Known as House Boz, the four bedroom dream home was erected with confidence in the everlasting beauty of nature: “The vastness and natural setting of this site inspired a design resembling a bush lodge that responds to nature and its immediate surroundings. Translating this concept into a contemporary home was almost effortless thanks to the location, orientation and natural beauty of the site. The architectural design communicates and reinforces the concept, as can be seen in the selection of materials used and the way the internal spaces relate to the outdoors.” Strategically placed, square and rectangular rusted steel boxes help create the perfect conditions for the stone-clad walls to extend the house into the landscape. Winning the Lafarge Award for the best architectural use of decorative concrete in South Africa 2013, and the overall award for best concrete work for 2013, the home’s interior was imagined by M Square Lifestyle Design as a plethora of modern furniture – from Molteni & C, Horm, Fantoni, Fontana Arte, Tom Dixon or Foscarini – in earthy colors. Incorporating in situ-concrete, quartzite cladding and rusted mild steel in their raw form, designers composed a vivid and warm domestic space mirroring natural beauty outdoor. Does this blend of materials and colors appeal to you? You're reading Mirroring Nature’s Everlasting Beauty: House Boz in South Africa originally posted on Freshome. | Conference Hall Refinement: Council Chair and Lounge by Onecollection Posted: 09 Apr 2014 08:59 AM PDT Creative duo Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard designed The Council Chair, a sculptural piece for Danish brand Onecollection. This elegant furniture project was envisioned in 2011, as a result of a design competition under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture. The aim then was to provide unique seating for the Finn Juhl Chamber, one of the permanent chambers at the United Nations headquarters in New York. During Milan Design Week 2014, the company will be showcasing a different version of this design, entitled Council Chair Lounge (last photo of this post). Here are some functional attributes of the new lounge collection, as presented by the developers: "The chairs provide excellent comfort and ease and are best for lounge or reduce seated conferences. They pass on the baton from Finn Juhl's iconic design heritage in a sculptural and pleasurable route, which merges condition, color and organic materials." Each product is constructed in molded 3D veneer in oak or walnut, upholstered with leather or fabric. The swivel base is cast in aluminum. How would you comment on the appearance of these conference hall chair models? You're reading Conference Hall Refinement: Council Chair and Lounge by Onecollection originally posted on Freshome.
