This mountain holiday home was especially envisioned by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter as a contemporary retreat for a family of four. Situated near the village Geilo, a popular skiing destination in Norway, Split View Mountain Lodge frames the spectacular views and allows easy access when it comes to skiing and hiking activities. According to the architects, the owners’ brief requested a home with four bedrooms, separate living and dining areas, a youth lounge and a mezzanine for the younger children. In addition, a small annex was also on the list of the clients for accommodating visiting friends and family.
The challenge was successfully met: “Our response was a cabin of clear and clean-cut expression with a continuous skin of timber cladding on the exterior walls and roof, which will acquire a grey patina with time. The volume consists of a main body, housing mostly bedrooms, which follow the natural contours of the landscape and splits into two living zones“, explained the architects. All interiors pay tribute to the modern-minimalist style, with wood being used in abundance for a welcoming feel. What are your thoughts on this Norwegian holiday ski lodge?

We were instantly captivated by the original interior design exhibited by Hazukashi House, a contemporary family home envisioned by Alts Design Office in a suburban area of Kyoto, Japan. Seemingly minimalist- if we were to judged by its exterior appearance- this crib bewilders as one steps inside. The core of the dwelling is a common dining spot, where all the family can gather. Extensive use of wood makes this social area fun, friendly and therefore highly welcoming.
But the most original feature of Hazukashi House is its general design “theme”, cleverly materialized in a series of gabled forms spread throughout the interiors. It’s as everywhere you look, children decided to draw pretty houses on paper, and then transferred them into a real home, at a slightly larger scale. A central open wooden stairway, also clad in timber, connects the home's ground level living zones with the bedroom and study at the upper floor. All in all, this is a home that exudes warmth and bursts with design creativity. How do you find it?
