| Luxurious Mexico Residence with Multiple Outdoor Living Spaces Posted: 28 Apr 2014 05:00 AM PDT Olson Kundig Architects completed the design and development of the luxurious Mexico Residence located on a sandy beach in Baja. According to the architects, a strong connection between indoors and outdoors is constantly nurtured by sliding pocket doors and multiple outdoor living spaces, as well as by impressive cantilevered overhangs. A generously-sized swimming pool with mesmerizing views of the surrounding landscape adds up to the general design extravaganza. The layout was planned in order to ensure a high level of flexibility and to encourage social interaction: “A central, two-story gathering space separates the public areas – living, dining, kitchen and catering – from the master suite. An upstairs floor containing bedrooms, bunkrooms, bathrooms, and a kids' area can be closed off, maintaining an intimate feel.” With expansive sea views from every interior, this Mexico beach abode inspires a perpetual holiday feel. Sustainable features of the residence include solar thermal panels and natural ventilation. | Modern Architecture Embracing Nature: Russet Residence by Slyce Design Posted: 27 Apr 2014 11:54 PM PDT Russet Residence is a 4,600 square feet home located on a steep slope of land in West Vancover, Canada. This modern house was completed last year by Splyce Design, literally embracing nature. The house’s front was tucked into the hill while the rear of it opens to the ocean. The objective for this project was to create a relaxing home environment fully connected to the landscape. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels substitute regular walls allowing residents to enjoy the lush and uninterrupted vegetation. Cedar trees and and Douglas fir are so close that it feels like your living room and the woods are one. “This reclamation of space is clearly pronounced in the dining room, where it projects out fifteen feet unsupported. By eliminating window frames and extending the glazing panels on all three sides of the room, past the floor and ceiling planes, the space dissolves into the adjacent forest canopy and provides framed views though to the ocean beyond.” With surroundings that are ravishing and inspiring, the house stands as a contemporary fortress, capturing views from every single angle. Embracing both, the forest and the ocean, Russet Residence enhances the feeling of breeziness throughout the house, despite its robust materiality. | Contemplative Tunquen House Overlooking the Ocean Posted: 27 Apr 2014 03:04 PM PDT Nested 164 feet above sea level, on a solitary cliff (100 miles away from the city of Santiago, Chile), Tunquen House is a single-storey family home envisioned as a contemplative modern refuge. Designed by Nicolás Lipthay Allen / L2C, the residence frames astounding views, encouraging inhabitants to connect on a visual and spiritual level with the ocean. In order to disconnect from a consumptive lifestyle, needless to say, one doesn’t need much: waves colliding and crashing on the rocks, the salty scent of the shoreline and soothing sounds from the depths. Defined as a single volume of white concrete, Tunquen House outlines the wonderful outdoor environment. Living room, kitchen and dining occupy the core of it, with wide-stretching views on two sides. “Attached to the living area is a courtyard that has multiple functions, the most important is to be outside sheltered from the wind, in connection with the view and the interior of the house. This same courtyard provides the access, an outdoor dining area and garden.” Besides the great views provided by the living area, the house accommodates several rooms for guests, a bedroom for children and a master bedroom with services.
