This modern farmhouse on Vancouver’s Ripple Road was imagined by Kelly Deck Design as having an open layout, where functionality and elegance meet to shape social spaces. With this project, the team created their first farmhouse-inspired home with a masculine vibe present through the held-back colors used throughout. This beautiful West Vancouver residence balances respect for old traditions and possibilities of modern comfort. A relaxed atmosphere spreads over the open spaces: living room, dining room, open kitchen, they all shape a vibrant homey feel.

The kitchen showcases white oak cabinet doors with recessed steel hardware under natural light, hiding both the fridge and the pantry. This allows the centerpiece- a 5 feet wide and 11 feet long kitchen island dressed in dark- stained oak – to compose a melodramatic contrast with the rest of the space. Spreading over 800 square feet, the master bathroom on the upper floor is strictly tied to the modern farmhouse concept, gathering both elegance and interpretation of raw farm elements. A chandelier hanging over the free-standing bathtub contrasts the barn door in a fun, subtle way. Linked to the master bedroom, this light-filled space resembles European spas and prepares the owners for a resting sleep. This home is dipped in comfort and served fresh – a delicious combination!

Game of Thrones Enthusiast? Behold the DIY Iron Throne Bean Bag!

If you have a gazillion hours to spare and an obsessive fascination for Game of Thrones, this Iron Throne Bean Bag could be your next task. Patiently planned and implemented by Isabell Kiko from Nerd by Night, this crazy looking armchair gets more famous with every passing day. A replica of the Iron Throne for the ruler who wants to sit comfortably, this iconic bean bag took its creator several week-ends to complete.

Isabell Kiko started with a paper model (photo below) and used silver, golden, and black acrylic paint in order to give it that special battle shine. After sewing the fabrics into place, the designer stuffed the resulting furniture piece with foam and bean bag beans. Game of Thrones character Stannis Baratheon briefly described the massive power-symbol in one of the episodes: “Have you ever seen the Iron Throne? The barbs along the back, the ribbons of twisted steel, the jagged ends of swords and knives all tangled up and melted?” This version may not be as fearsome, but it can be yours, by following these step-by-step instructions!
