French-based designer Philippe Starck imagined this beautiful Axor Starck V collection comprising sleek transparent washbasin mixers, allowing the viewer to experience the vitality of water and the beauty of it. Made of transparent organic durable crystal glass, the mixers emphasise the natural swirl of a vortex and the elegant motion of the water making its way through the body of the faucet. The vortex phenomenon unveils the artistic and emotional aspect of the water, enabling it as a genuinely palpable element and allowing it to become a living reality.

"Axor Starck V is the result of successfully combining technical know-how with the ultimate in water and product design expertise and decades of experience in bathroom design", explains Philippe Grohe, Head of Axor. Creativity and the technical know-how were essential in developing the Axor Starck V collection. Both, beautiful and functional, the exclusive line of washbasin mixers changes the way you perceive the everyday objects. Breaking the monotony of your kitchen or bathroom, the elegant appliances are available in white, chrome or brass and they feature a single lever basin mixer, a 2-hole basin mixer or a single lever mixer version for washbowl, depending on your needs and preferences. The collection was officially presented a week ago, at Milan Design Week 2014.

We’ve presented plenty of peculiar design ideas on Freshome but this one is absolutely mind-blowing! You all love the summer, right? The park alleys, the fresh smell of morning dew, the flowers. For those of you who can’t get enough of it and keep looking for the summer all year long, we have excellent news: you can now experience that feeling anywhere, anyhow, as long as you have the Summertime sofa with you. Summertime is a scented sofa designed by the Italian artist, Valerio Berruti for Gufram, one of the most groundbreaking design and furniture companies in Italy. The couch was inspired by the classic park bench you chill out on, in a lazy summer afternoon. It has relaxing properties and it’s made of comfortable polyurethane foam, offering a unique seating experience.

“Thus Summertime wishes to be an instrument of pleasant idleness; an invitation to a gentle relax of a initial summer days – those that still lift a smell of budding flowers; those that let us suffer a initial temperate balmy days; those of a initial swims in a sea; those of a initial ice-cream cones.” Highlighting the idea of easy summer living whilst exploring the first days of the season, this sofa releases hints of cinnamon and orange fragrances. The delightful sweet scented couch was produced in just 250 numbered pieces and there are two versions available: burnt sienna and copper green.

Imposing Library House in India Evoking Bangalore’s Colonial Past

Khosla Associates were commissioned to build a dream Library House for a family in Bangalore, India. The aim was to design a special retreat that would meet the various living needs of its three inhabitants. Within this modern sanctuary, the Library room was given special attention: “The 750 sqf area has a 25 ft high gabled roof with wooden trusses and a bookshelf spanning over 30 feet in length. It is a casual space where the family congregates, where carefully demarcated areas for lounging, studying, listening to music, playing the piano, and entertaining are carved out in an open plan layout“. Two private bedrooms are located on the first floor, hovering over the garden and pool deck, while a third guest bedroom makes the most of its ground floor location.

According to the designers, the Library house juxtaposes different moods within its plan, modulating scale and creating an element of surprise as you enter, and a process of discovery as you move along. There is a layering of space and a continuing mix of old and new, global and Indian, that extends throughout the interiors. Sustainability was also a major part of the design planning process: the residence generates most of it's own electricity via photovoltaic solar panels and stores excess rainwater in a large underground sump. And the grandeur of Ratanakosin Theme Suite pays tribute to the original Bangkok, founded by King Rama I at the start of the Chakri Dynasty.
