Eco-Tourism Merged With Sustainable Design: DROP XL by In-tenta [Video] Posted: 14 Apr 2014 06:30 AM PDT The DROP XL modules by Barcelona-based design studio In-tenta are part of the large emerging trend in the field of modular micro-architecture, suitable for being placed wherever the heart desires and the land permits. The aim of DROP modules is to meet the growing demand for Eco-tourism with customers that like traveling but don't want to stay in common hotels and demand sustainable architecture mixed with quality design. The new DROP XL models can be used as removable hotel rooms, cabins, pop-up pods for events, singular architectural elements and so on. The 30 sqm projects are off-site manufactured, and then road-transported to their final location by truck. Made from wood, steel and glass, each unit is aimed to have a minimum impact on the environment. As you can observe in the video below, the structure’s base is elevated from the ground, on adjustable steel legs, to minimize the contact with the soil and adapt to the irregular terrains. A notable feature of the design is the large bubble windows at the ends of the cylindrical tube. the modular units offer a solution for both environmentally conscious use and smart interior design. With a peculiar design, a top made of oak and a crazy yellow bag drawer, the item envisioned by Gregoire de Lafforest is the perfect place to deposit those “small treasures of everyday life” that lost their use (sets of keys, clothing buttons, batteries and such). We tend to collect all kinds of objects for no particular reason. Therefore, every home keeps a stash of “little things”with no particular functionality. The purpose of Balka Console is to replace the classic tray, where you keep those, with something a little bit more pretentious. Wi-Fi Amazon Dash Device: The Future of Home Shopping? The new product is about the size of a remote control, and it features both a microphone and a bar-code scanner, which allows users to either speak the name of the product they need or scan its bar code. With a simple setup, Dash connects to your Wi-Fi network and from here on registers what you need. According to the producers, the gizmo helps buyers choose from over 500 000 products, ranging from fresh grocery and local products to electronics. The new device works with AmazonFresh, the company’s delivery service that currently only operates in Southern California, San Francisco and Seattle. One-Storey House Designed Within the Landscape Contex: Villa Sterk Posted: 13 Apr 2014 01:01 PM PDT Villa Sterk, a  one-storey residence designed within the landscape context was completed last year by the Amsterdam-based architectural firm, Inbo, in Bontebok, the Netherlands. Hidden from the road by walls of trees, the house offers intimacy and tranquility. It’a a peaceful secluded haven, ideal to relax and enjoy the quiet of the countryside. Morning dew, a cup of steaming coffee, the vast expanse of green, the soothing sound of dawn – you don’t need much to unplug from a chaotic lifestyle and give your brain a break. Enjoy the little things. “Where the tree rampart touches the house, a natural stone wall takes over the guidance of the landscape and at the same time serves as the termination on both short sides of the house. On the south side the stone wall retreats a little and provides a diagonal view of the landscaped garden. The ground floor floats just above the earth as if the house has not yet 'landed' and is a guest in the landscape.” The neat, clean-lined architecture encourages the spatial seclusion of the place. Interior feels light and uncluttered. It almost gives you the illusion that you are outside. High efficiency glass distributed along the lateral walls ensure a good penetration of light and warmth. Walls, ceilings and floors are all-white, made of concrete and natural white stone finishes.
