At a first glance, it may seem that this hillside house in San Francisco is just another contemporary retreat with spectacular city views. But as you get closer, you will see that the architects at Susan Fredman Design Group did a wonderful job personalizing this Corona Heights neighborhood project. A high level of openness was achieved with the help of tall windows; this allows natural light inside, enhancing the feeling of space.
Located on the bottom level, the living zone is particularly welcoming with its high ceilings and walls partially replaced by glass. A sofa, a few armchairs and a reading nook are more than enough to accommodate family and friends during those long after-dinner talks. The minimalist white chandelier reduces the scale of the room and adds a dynamic touch. However, the most appealing part of the residence is a generously-sized terrace, which the designers turned into a luxurious place for contemplation.

Before and After : Bedroom Makeover with Moss and Coral Accents

This inspiring bedroom makeover is the result of a design collaboration between Decorview and style expert Emily Henderson. The goal of the project was to bring a bit of sunshine into a Los Angeles family and beat out winter blues. The owners (busy parents of three boys) had a dull bedroom with mismatched window coverings from previous owner that weren’t functional and didn’t even open all the way. They also had lots of “starter” furniture in the room that didn’t go together.

Therefore, they wanted something sophisticated and practical. Enter Decorview and Emily Henderson and some vintage-modern style. Emily Henderson chose creamy coral, gold and moss color palette. For Window Treatments, Decorview provided the custom made flat panel roman shades in “Ryland” fabric, color ”Mist”. The traditional pleat curtain was made in the same textured herringbone pattern fabric in the same color. The drapery rod was also custom from Decorview, called “Rustic Elegance.” Emily brought in the amazing gold, moss and coral accents through the mid-century style accents. The wallpaper (Terrance Payne for Hygge and West), wood lamps and bedding. She also repainted the family’s Ikea dressers and customized them with knobs and spray paint. The result is a a bright, light and happy interior with a soft modern vintage feel and a calming retreat at the end of the day for these busy parents of three.

Artful House Envisioned as a Personal Refuge in the Woods

Residential project House in the Woods was label as House of the Month 2014 by Architectural Record. The artful house was designed by William Reue Architecture at the base of the Shawangunk Mountains, in Ulster County, New York. Responding to the client’s values of order, beauty, and environmental stewardship, the property serves as a personal refuge for someone looking to disconnect from routine and connect with nature and the wilderness.

“The residence is the result of the studied relationship between two opposing geometries – a long sculptural wall clad in Cor-Ten weathering steel and a mass of stratified bluestone that appears to have emerged from the boulder-strewn earth. Locally-sourced materials and strategic siting stitch the house into the natural world while contributing to its sustainability for the modern one.” Interior is pretty much inspired by the wonderful natural landscape. Tones of browns, beiges and greys adorn the furniture, walls and floors. An uncomplicated design line defined the living space, which opens to the endless maze of trees. The view is absolutely inspiring, no matter the season.

Playful Furniture Inviting You to Fill in the Voids: ROOM Collection

A dynamic duo comprised of two swedish-based designers, Erik Olovsson and Kyuhyung Cho, came up with the idea of rethinking how objects breathe in space by conjuring an old boyhood game of building with blocks. The playfulness of the design comes forward with every element we encounter and with each idea of how to sort them out. The 25 stackable blocks, made of plywood finished with matt lacquer, come in different shapes and sizes and have been inspired by the objects they house. Each block can house pretty much anything, from books, to bottles of wine, shoes, scarves, sunglasses, suitcases or mugs. Both, composition and choices are unlimited.

Inciting creativity and challenging the mind, blocks can form from horizontal shelves to vertical cabinets. All you have to do is pick your favourite elements and built up your own composition. “Erik and Kyuhyung were interested in diversifying the relationship between object and space to create furniture as rooms for objects. The focus was to explore the mix-and-match quality of the ensemble in our spaces from a graphical approach. ROOM enhances the characteristic of the individual objects and emphasises the interactions between space and object.”
