Complex Residence Encouraging Family Interaction: Casa 31_4 Room House Posted: 21 Apr 2014 07:01 AM PDT A fruitful collaboration between Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects and Caroline Di Costa led to the development of Casa 31_4 Room House, a complex residential project. According to the description provided by the architects, all spaces contain elements of the past, often manifested as objects of intrigue: the sloping floor, the barge scrolls on the front fence, the roof tiles, the chimney as water collector and the up-cycling of former building elements such as decks, gates, architraves and furniture. The front deck engaging with the street reintroduces the role and value of the front garden as meeting place, a lost tradition in a modern society where privacy and security are key factors to consider when building a home. This contemporary residence bursts with personality and constantly inspires family interaction: “The design enables our children and us to grow and evolve in a sequence of spaces that encourage engagement with each other and the dwelling and offers new ways of understanding and exploring family relationships and an understanding of space. Constantly Satisfying a Cat’s Curiosity: CATable by Ruan Hao Posted: 20 Apr 2014 11:40 PM PDT The charming CATable was created by Ruan Hao from LYCS, an architecture firm based in Hangzhou and Hong Kong. Especially designed for cats to explore and sleep in, the project follows a worldwide trend: that of sharing your home with pets. The table features crannies and passageways, where your furry cat friend can happily roam stealthily. According to the designer, people who lives with cats experience these two things: 1. Putting away the cat from your laptop is like a sentimental ritual of temporary farewell. 2. A properly-sized hole is irresistible to cats; their curiosity is greatly satisfied through repetitively exploring the unknown path behind that hole. The design of CATable is a fusion of these experiences, as well as a creative place where the interaction occurs. “It is a table for us, and a paradise for cats“, concludes Ruan Hao.
