Stylish Dark-Toned Interior in Istanbul Designed by Tanju Özelgin

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 04:16 AM PDT

Inspiring sobriety T House Stylish Dark Toned Interior in Istanbul Designed by Tanju ÖzelginIstanbul-based designer, Tanju Özelgin, completed the interior of T House, a gorgeous multi-level residence sited in Bosphorus district. With objects of décor displayed in a museum-like manner, he imagined a stylish dark-toned living space, making use of local forms and materials. The neutral palette of colours, ranging from white/ beige to different hues of grey and sheer black create an astounding visual effect. Space looks modern, yet a little bit gloomy. Despite the excessive use of obscure colours, the interior inspires calmness and elegance. High ceilings, dramatic chandeliers, long curtains and exquisite artwork adorn the living room.

Interior by Tanju Özelgin Stylish Dark Toned Interior in Istanbul Designed by Tanju Özelgin“In this project, Özelgin has used rough stone and raw concrete mixed with polished marble, wood and glass for the interior and sections of the exterior. Also the widespread use of stone surfaces on walls, floors and exterior areas can be considered as an example of the use of local elements. Besides, the use of stonewall panels in the primary living spaces is one of the most important features of the design.” From polished marble tables to futuristic-like sculptures – everything seems to fall into place visually. The overall design appears to be fascinating and intimidating, in the same time.

Duplex by Axis Mundi Design Colourful and Light Filled Apartment in Manhattan by Axis Mundi Design Axis Mundi Design, a multidisciplinary firm based in New York imagined the colourful and light-filled interior of this 675 sq. ft one-bedroom apartment, located in the Meatpacking District, Manhattan. Surprising the viewer with a rich décor, the team responsible with the project focused on outlining the outstanding features of the space. Starting from the zebrano plank flooring, the Egg Chair, the glass coffee table and ending up with the spectacular chandelier, the flat looks “très chic”. The chromatic vibrancy pulsing throughout the home generates a strong positive energy, making the entire place glow. Astounding details, such as lively coloured pillows, a modern fireplace, a cheerful rug and an arched window create a strong feeling of comfort and sophistication.

Manhattan living space Colourful and Light Filled Apartment in Manhattan by Axis Mundi DesignFilled with natural light, the living room feels larger and more open. A custom folded and cantilevered steel staircase leads to the master bedroom, located at the top floor. The bedroom’s façade is shielded with sandblasted glass, to preserve privacy. We absolutely love the blue wall behind the bed! Looks fresh, edgy and modern. Just the way we like it!

design onyx sofa Sculptural and Provoking: Sofa Onyx by Peugeot Design LabSofa Onyx by PEUGEOT DESIGN LAB- the PEUGEOT Global Brand Design studio- stands out with its provoking design. The ONYX super car (launched by the brand a while back) has today found its static partner in this incredible sofa. Discovered on blog-Esprit, the 3-metre long seat made of carbon fiber and volcanic lava encompasses PEUGEOT’s industrial creativity.

By means of a sharp straight cut, this contrast is powerful, voluntary and assumed in the way we look at the materials and how they are used“, explained the designers. The aim of the project was to present the union between hyper-technological materials on one side (like carbon fiber, glass fiber, aluminum) and raw, natural materials on the other. How do you like the result?

Taking simple materials, including paper and cardboard, and creating life-changing structures for people impacted by natural disasters is what Shigeru Ban is known for doing best. The Cardboard Cathedral, opened to the public in August 2013 and designed pro bono is his most famous work yet. Here is a statement from the Pritzker Jury 2014, justifying the prize: "Shigeru Ban is a tireless architect whose work exudes optimism. Where others may see insurmountable challenges, Ban sees a call to action. Where others might take a tested path, he sees the opportunity to innovate. He is a committed teacher who is not only a role model for younger generation, but also an inspiration." How would you comment on this year’s Pritzker Prize nominees and winners?
