| Iconic Music Chair Reinvented by Young Talented Designers Posted: 15 Sep 2011 06:53 AM PDT The Music Chair was initially created by Italian furniture manufacturer Natuzzi and was revolutionary due to its integrated sound system and delightful upholstered design. In order to celebrate the success of this creation, Natuzzi decided to challenge young designers to a competition which aimed at reinventing the iconic item. Among the participating projects, these two showcased in the photos below got most appreciated. The first version belongs to Davide Bianchi, who recently collaborated with Natuzzi in order to manufacture a music chair with cream color urban upholstery and golden screws that complement its appearance. The other project belongs to Melanie Porter and involves ample colorful knitwear design. We find them both to be quite intriguing and are looking forward to your opinions as well.

| Small Budget for Building a Fabulous Contemporary Home Posted: 15 Sep 2011 05:42 AM PDT The Flinders House in Victoria, Australia, showcases a vivid contemporary architecture built on a small budget. Australia-based Sharif Abraham Architects explain how the architecture of the residence expresses the needs of the inhabitants: “Located on a stretch of cliff-top land with views towards the sea, the site is at the end of cul de sac and abuts the Flinders Golf Course on two sides. The brief was to design a weekend "retreat" within a very tight budget. The design explores the idea of a retreat in connection with the notion of “isolation”. The peculiar location of the site and the surrounding geography alluded to this sensibility. Architecturally, this is referenced through the way the surroundings are viewed from the interior, in the positioning of the house on the site, and in a more general sense, in how it connects to a notion of "simple architecture" through the use of materials and its formal clarity. ” Fascinating details of the house will keep you entertained while scrolling down to enjoy them.

| Ultramodern VIP WING Lounge at the Munich Airport Posted: 15 Sep 2011 04:32 AM PDT Admiring the VIP WING Lounge at the Munich Airport feels like trying to understand how the architects merged modernism and tradition not only in the design but also, the atmosphere. Created by Erich Gassmann and Tina Aßmann, the VIP WING Lounge at the Munich Airport was created using local materials like felt, leather, and broad oak planks, enhanced by the welcoming of bright, natural light through large windows. Equipped with the latest technologies, but offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere, the VIP WING Lounge provides customers with ultramodern facilities and elegant, functional spaces. Located in the south wing of Terminal 1, the Lounge spreading across 1,200 square meters was designed to offer the best facilities for its specific customer base. | When Steel and Oak Meet in Design: Noon Studio Steel Stool Posted: 15 Sep 2011 03:30 AM PDT Functional and versatile, the Noon Studio’s Steel Stool represents a continuous search for better and more space-effective furniture. The stool concept comes from the joining of two simple materials that give it modern features and a forceful, contemporary design. Constructed by combining a metal sheet with a wooden Y-frame, the Steel Stool displays the idea of a strong character in spite of its material duality. The Oak part of the chair softens the steel’s bold appearance, creating a fascinating modern stool. Measuring only 35 x 35 x 35 cm, the stool concept can also become more than just a useful seating option – it can be transformed into a very versatile storage system. By stacking up a few Steel Stools, you can end up having a modern bookcase perfect to take down whenever guests arrive.

| Unique Dining Experience at Phantom Opera Garnier Restaurant Posted: 15 Sep 2011 02:25 AM PDT The Phantom Opera Garnier Restaurant in Paris, designed by French architect Odile Decq, is a place to enjoy a good meal in the company of friends, surrounded by an interesting interior design. A curvaceous mezzanine level steals the attention once you enter through the columns of Opera Garnier’s east facade. Red and white are the predominant colors, creating an interesting contrasting effect with the fabulous Neo-Baroque interiors of the building. The architects working on this project had to overcome many problems. The architecture was to be left untouched and all the modifications had to be reversible. With a budget of $6 million, the architects managed to construct a contemporary interior that seems to be levitating without interfering with the structure of the Opera. The curvaceous mezzanine can accommodate 90 guests and offer them a unique dining experience in the presence of fantastic old architecture blended with contemporary shapes and colors and modern interior design.

This incredible carbon fiber bathtub by Corcel seems to play with senses and to completely reevaluate one’s idea of taking a bath the calm way. Because what it inspires is speed in a straightforward way. Its appearance is unique, with black stripes that contribute to an original aerodynamic shape. The design also captures artificial light, reflecting it in a sophisticated manner. According to Trendir, the carbon fiber tub is part of a limited edition called ‘No 1′ and belonging to the company mentioned above. Now this type of design is definitely not for everybody. If you are one to love a soft bubbly bath, then this black, strong monster is not for you. It does have a pronounced manly feel about it, doesn’t it ?
