| Japanese Fountain With Collapsing Water Patterns [Video] Posted: 13 Sep 2011 07:51 AM PDT Japan’s water fountains are in touch with technology. Have a look at this incredible display of patterns as the succeed in Osaka City Station. You have to admit this is an original why to find out what time it is. Aside from showcasing a collapsing digital clock, this Osaka water fountain displays plenty of other patterns (some of them quite artistic), made up of a variety of shapes. The result is spectacular, the type of performance that can get you stuck in front of it for several minutes in a row, without realizing it. The ingenious system is based on a printer that emits illuminated water droplets and that is controlled digitally. The patterns are said to reproduce images stored on a computer. Enjoy the video below and tell us if you’re impressed by the show!

| Become the Star of the Evening: Magazine Cover Pillowcases Posted: 13 Sep 2011 06:56 AM PDT If you ever dreamed about being on a magazine cover… let’s say this is the next best thing. These magazine cover pillowcases have a youthful feel about them and can turn out to be a fun and inspired present for all your “fashionable” friends. These designs can transform their users into Esquire, Playboy, Vogue and even Times personalities, since the person on the cover is missing, therefore allowing the pillowcase owner to become the star of the evening. Sleeping like a media personality may not actually occur, but it is worth giving it a shot. The pillowcases can be purchased online here, for $ 39,99. We are interested in knowing what you think of these designs. Do you find them trendy or too cliché? And last but not least, what cover magazine would you be challenged to appear on?

| Concrete House in California Disclosing An Original Architecture Posted: 13 Sep 2011 04:57 AM PDT The imposing Concrete House was designed by Ogrydziak/Prillinger Architects and is located in Piedmont, California. According to the project developers, the residence is a complete renovation of a cast-concrete and brick house, initially built in 1974. Here is more from the architects: “The original 7000 square foot house was built for a single couple, a fluid open plan organized around a central courtyard. The intent of the remodel was to make the house practical for a family and to upgrade the finishes and feel of the house while remaining true to its original spirit of large expanses of exposed materials and visual openness. The primary living spaces, kitchen, and baths were all reconfigured with a view to maximize the flexibility of the space – maintaining the spatial continuity of the existing house while still allowing private enclosures. Fully operable sliding glass doors open to perceptually extend the living room space into the pool terrace. Through the device of oversized folding doors, the new kitchen can be opened to engage fully in the life of the house or can be closed off for formal occasions. Three new bedrooms – more like elaborate pieces of casework than typical room enclosures – were also added to the house“. How do you appreciate the architecture of this project?

| Versatile Furniture: Dual Cut by Kitmen Keung Posted: 13 Sep 2011 03:56 AM PDT What can you get by slicing a cube into two separate asymmetrical parts? Designer Kitmen Keung did this simple experiment and the result couldn’t be more practical. Dual Cut is an interesting furniture piece consisting of a lounge chair and ottoman which can be merged together to form a third furniture piece (a desk or a table). Here is more from the official designer’s description: “Splitting a raw rectangular foam block with only two L-shaped cut lines, the Dual Cut Chair and ottoman employs the simplest production processes true to the materials in use with minimal wastage. It features two ergonomically comfortable seat back angle options of 6° and 23°, and the multi-formation ability to form a one seater with a side table, a chaise lounge or a corner table. It also easily forms a neat, compact parcel for convenient storage and transportation“. | A Pharmacy Design That Will Make You Forget Your Illness by Clavel Arquitectos Posted: 13 Sep 2011 02:34 AM PDT Clavel Arquitectos completed the impressive 180 square meter Casanueva Pharmacy in Murcia, Spain. The overall feel of this place is vivid and futuristic. We like to think of it as having a design that can make you forget all about your sickness, even though that would not be good for business. Here is a project description from the architects: “The entire building seems to lean on a 3d façade, shaped with the text "FARMACIA", making up a double height shop window. This element marks not only the use and identity of the pharmacy, but also provides the necessary solar protection, since the main façade faces west. The sign that lights up at night is only understandable from a certain distance, changing into an abstract form when viewed from far away”. Inside, behind the sign, a green metallic slat cladding descends from the ceiling through the back wall down to the floor, joining to the same color epoxy-resin pavement, all together working as a background for the sales furniture: self-illuminated glossy-white tubular elements in five levels, that seem to float and divide the space into different areas.” To us, it has a very fresh approach. How do you find this pharmacy design?

| Contemporary Pink Kitchen With An Appealing Design Posted: 13 Sep 2011 01:14 AM PDT If you thought decorating your home in pink was too flashy and inappropriate, here is an example that will make you reassess your options. We recently discovered this lovely pink kitchen which made quite an impression on us due to its attractive and tasteful design. The large interior is opened towards an outdoor terrace through floor to ceiling glass doors, making the whole room be flooded with natural light. A pink wallpaper sets the tone for the entire kitchen, defining an atmosphere that is both fresh and appealing. The kitchen is large enough for a couple to cook at ease and enjoy every minute. A table for six, with colorful chairs is seated right next to the tall glass doors, for a lovely dining experience. Still think pink is too ostentatious?

| Tasteful and Inspiring Freshome Reader’s Apartment in Hollywood Posted: 12 Sep 2011 11:47 PM PDT “My living room was Ronald Reagan’s office when he was the president of the Screen Actors Guild“. This is the way Tom, one of our readers, started the presentation of his delightful contemporary crib. Needless to say, our attention was triggered. Here is the rest of his description: “My apartment is in a historical building on Hollywood Blvd across from the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The Hollywood Professional Building, is a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture. Completed in 1925, the building housed the headquarters of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, and was later home to the Screen Actor’s Guild. From its inception, these offices served industry stars, the seminal architect John Lautner and earned its listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it reigns at the center of a new Hollywood heyday, this time as modern open spaces in which to live or work (or both), only two blocks from the Metro line, in one of the coolest and most dynamic neighborhoods in LA.” And your feedback is…
