Colorful Apartment Exploding With Energy and Good Taste in Barcelona Posted: 23 Aug 2011 07:34 AM PDT We ran across this lovely 105 square meter apartment in Barcelona that draws attention due to a vivid design and an original house plan. Designed by Miel Arquitectos, this crib inspires joyfulness and energy. The house is organized around a diagonal axis and on both sides, the rooms follow one another creating triangular shapes that ensure originality. It is interesting how the designer chose to go with an abundance of color while leaving the walls white. This way, the contrast is absolutely charming and the rooms are not overcrowded. There are plenty of details that you may find inspiring about this crib, starting with the creative staircase, the spiral shelving unit on the wall or the “liquid” hanger near the main entrance door. We also like where the stairs lead- a small, creative space that each can use in their own way (perhaps a reading corner could be well integrated here). Enjoy! [Photography: Nuria Vila]

Throw Your Cat Out of The Room The Elegant Way: Cat-Lift [Video] Posted: 23 Aug 2011 05:53 AM PDT There comes a time in every cat-owner’s life when the fluffy purring felines are simply just too much to handle. This is probably why a young designer came up with the ingenious “cat lift”, a device that allows you to throw your pet out the stylish way. According to the cat lift developer, the installation can be fully “managed” and operated by the cat, as the feline is able to get in and get out on its own (when it reaches its destination), the rest of the mechanism being automatic. How much money does it take to build such a cat-teleporting machine? As stated by Gadget Review, around 800 Euros. Crazy Freshome cat-lovers everywhere- useful or way off? [ Be sure to take a look at the video below in order to see this crazy device in action ]

Street Furniture for Spontaneous Interactions: Meeting Bowls in Times Square, NYC Posted: 23 Aug 2011 02:52 AM PDT Meeting Bowls is a new urban furniture installation recently displayed by Madrid-based mmmm… in partnership with the Times Square Alliance. According to PSFK, it is an innovative project aimed at encouraging spontaneous dialogs between random people visiting Times Square in New York. Here is more from the developers: “Meeting Bowls are large objects shaped like bowls with seating to accommodate eight people. The inviting semi-spherical capsules are installed outdoors in spaces with high pedestrian traffic. They are designed to promote interaction by having those seated inside face one another. These “social” benches are more intimate than typical public benches. The Meeting Bowls are designed to generate a slight rocking motion as they rebalance when people step into and out of them. The gentle motion generated is intended to be relaxing and fun much like a swing but one for adults“. Do you believe this idea could be implemented at a larger scale?

Delightful Home Amplifying The Beauty of Its Surrounding Landscape: Maison Val D’Entremont Posted: 23 Aug 2011 01:43 AM PDT Maison Val D’Entremont is a fascinating architecture project designed by Swiss company Savioz Fabrizzi Archtectes and located in a mesmerizing natural environment, in Valais, Switzerland. The residence was built on an inclined terrain, taking advantage of amazing views of the Alps, as well as of the picturesque village below. The most spectacular detail concerning the architecture of this lovely home is probably its second level, which is entirely surrounded by glass walls in order to reflect and take in the landscape. It is here that the architects envisioned a generous terrace with a lounge area for relaxation and contemplation. As you will notice from the photos below, the interiors feature contemporary arrangements and an overall tasteful design. Be sure to have a look at the architecture plans below for a better understanding of the structure of this intriguing home. [Photography by Thomas Jantscher]

Lovely Games of Light and Shapes: Green Bistro in Germany Posted: 22 Aug 2011 09:24 AM PDT We really love seeing restaurants that stand out and make a statement through their appearance. Promoting one’s business with the help of great design seems to be a real goal these days and we couldn’t be happier about it. Green Bistro is a the result of a collaboration between Siddik Erdogan & Jorn Frohlich and is located in the Lengermann & Trieschmann department store, in Osnabruck, Germany. The place showcases highly modern arrangements and features a surrealist game of lines and light. Found on Homedit, the small informal restaurant consists of white chairs and tulip tables that make a lovely contrast with an imposing ceiling, which seems inspired by sci-fi movies. All in all, we imagine the visual effects this place offers are the main point of attraction when it comes to the clients’ loyalty. Do you find this bistro appealing or much too sophisticated?

Modern Crib with Unique Baltic Sea Views: Guna Villa in Latvia Posted: 22 Aug 2011 08:04 AM PDT Guna Villa is an intriguing architecture project developed by GMP Architekten and located in Jurmala, a city not far away from Riga, Latvia. The residence opens up to its spectacular landscape, comprised of a lush pine wood forest and the dunes of the Baltic Sea beach near Riga. Here is more on the home’s structure from GMP: “The villa opens up towards the south as a U-shaped structural body. The visitor enters the house protected by the elements under a projection on the western section. This western portion of the house serves as an impressive entryway. Located on the upper floor are the sleeping quarters, including bathrooms and dressing rooms, which accommodate the hostess and her guests. The living spaces are located in the eastern part of the house. The structure is organized as a split-level dwelling. This means that the levels are offset from on another by half a story. In this way a multi flight ramp becomes one of the main features of the house's design. It occupies the central space, connects the various levels with each other and is thus part of the overall living experience. Adjoining rooms, such as the house's library, are open to this middle space, providing views“. The most spectacular part of the house is probably the observation tower, a 15 meter platform where the inhabitants can enjoy unobstructed views of the sea.
