Enhance Your Crib with Creatively Different Roller Blinds Posted: 19 Aug 2011 06:50 AM PDT We recently received a press release from Creatively Different, a company that prints customized images on regular roller blinds. The result? Fresh and creative designs that bring personality and uniqueness to any room. The company has recently launched a range of versatile Panel blinds – excellent for creating a stunning design feature, when used for very large windows, or as room dividers in offices or city apartments: “We’ve added to our art collection with the recent recruitment of several artists from Washington Green Fine Art, offering some super limited-edition artwork; these include great cityscapes of London, Paris and New York by Paul Kenton and Neil Dawson, together with Paul Horton’s wonderful contemporary art – he’s been described as a ‘modern-day’ Lowry – and some sizzingly seductive and vibrant artwork from Drew Darcy“. There are hundreds of images to choose from, so matching the blinds with the existing room design of the user is not a problem.

An Interesting Architecture Approach: The Prospect House in San Diego Posted: 19 Aug 2011 05:44 AM PDT The Prospect House was designed by architect Jonathan Segal and is located in La Jolla, San Diego, California, on a previously abandoned 7200 square feet lot, vacant for almost 20 years. Here is a description from the project developers: “The architect/owner used the space to build a private, urban residence for his family with an on-site architecture studio. The residence is a stucco box resting on and supported by Corten steel wall planes, providing both privacy and noise attenuation. The main living area is surrounded by a reflecting pool on one side and a glass floor on the other. Below grade, where the office and recreation facilities reside, the glass floor/ceiling liberates the space and allows ample natural light. The house is open and flowing extending the livable space into the private garden and reflecting pool. Boundaries are dissolved and extended through sliding panels and lightness, transparency, and expansive views“. How do you appreciate the exterior design of this contemporary home?

Innovative Architecture Project: Glasgow’s Riverside Museum of Transport Posted: 19 Aug 2011 02:23 AM PDT The Riverside Museum of Transport is one of Glasgow’s most recent modern cultural buildings, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and officially opened on June 21, 2011. The museum is said to host various exhibits and displays of transport relics, engineering and shipbuilding items, some of them strongly connected with the industrial achievements of the city: “‘Glasgow's history as an industrial giant, a global leader in engineering and shipbuilding, is celebrated in an architectural masterpiece which shows that we remain at the cutting edge of design and technology. on the same spot where ships and paddle steamers were built, the launch of the riverside museum is an occasion which both Glasgow and Scotland can be proud of. While we celebrate our past, we are determined to look to the future“, stated Museum Councillor Matheson during the opening event. Find it daring? [Images courtesy of MAateer Photograph ltd]

“Vintage Gone Modern” Pieces of Outdoor Furniture From Gardenhouse Posted: 19 Aug 2011 02:03 AM PDT Florida based studio Gardenhouse stick to their motto at all times: the “vintage gone modern” feature can be seen in each one of their pieces of furniture. The beautiful collection of outdoor furniture is created by Cheryl Maeder Antonio and her husband, Gary, who is a metal sculptor. United under the name Gardenhouse, the two artists used to “search flea markets, antique stores and meet dealers who had a shared passion for vintage furnishings.” This is how the studio came into being. Their common passion ignited a collection of well-designed garden furniture. The pieces you can admire below and others are part of the same story. Cheryl describes her love for recreated furniture: “Giving the existing treasures my own signature style, I filled our home, studio and our friends’ homes with fabulous finds. With inspiring new finishes, modern fabrics and an original point of view, I recreated them into “vintage gone modern”. Today I am living my dream creating one of a kind home furnishings and contemporary fine art photography….introducing Gardenhouse.” Which one is the piece of outdoor furniture you would choose for your patio?

Encouraging Clients’ Relaxation: Dermatology Clinic in Tennessee Posted: 19 Aug 2011 12:55 AM PDT Woodbury Dermatology Clinic was designed by Archimania and is located in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. The aim of this project found on ArchDaily was to create a warm and appealing setting, where the clients would feel comfortable. The clinic consists of three different parts, differentiated by contrasting exteriors: one clad in stone (private space for employees), a wood and glass volume (public waiting area plus rear seminar room) and a section with stainless steel panels (the clinic itself). All the interiors are bathed in natural light and the overall feel is friendly and unique. We were delighted to see a dermatology clinic that managed to turn design into a factor of client-appeal. We are interested in finding out your opinion regarding this approach. Do you believe this type of clinic could really have an impact on the clients’ panic level? Fascinating Renovation Project: Mercer House by Vibe Design Group Posted: 18 Aug 2011 09:32 AM PDT Mercer Residence was designed by Vibe Design Group and displays a bold, fascinating architecture. Here is the press release we were sent by the project developers: “The client's purchased an existing run-down home with the intention of transforming it into a striking contemporary styled residence. Although unattractive to look at, the existing residence was of sound construction and worthy of part retention and utilization. Unlike their previous home that they described as too stark & cold, the client's called for a lively family home with sophistication and warmth. An undeniable street presence was formed with a striking timber-lined shape that extends with the longest street boundary. The bold tapering shape offers the dual purpose of protecting the occupant's privacy and disguising the properties three-storeys within. The garage door is finished in a perforated metal, which is also specified for the adjacent pedestrian entry gate.
The entry gate is afforded all-weather protection from the tapering shape over, and is the property's main access, fitted with an automated intercom system for gate release. Upon entry, one ascends the stairs and is invited into the primary living area. The central streamline kitchen is void of handles and inconspicuously incorporates a scullery/butlers pantry. A clear glass splash-back gives a sneak-peak to the battened timber feature wall beyond. Windows in the lounge area are given a framed view of the beautiful established trees in the streetscape, while the dining at the opposite end of the space spills onto the north-facing outdoor entertaining area. A sliding wall off the dining gives separation to the rumpus / movie room, bedrooms and descending staircase to the garage and laundry below. A battened Blackbutt feature wall disguises doorway access into the bedrooms, bathroom and powder room. The lounge area affords a quiet desk space beneath the floating staircase, and camouflaged access in the continued battened wall to another bedroom. The staircase leads to the upper storey master bedroom, which includes windows at opposing ends of the room. The protected east facing windows provide a beautiful elevated view over the undulating surrounding landscape. Although not obvious, the transformation used much of the existing conditions. The striking design solution gives the residence an undeniable street presence, combined with optimum liveability, sustainability and privacy for the occupants”. Modern and Refined Passanger Lounge in Biggin Hill Airport, London Posted: 18 Aug 2011 08:13 AM PDT We recently ran across this unusual passenger lounge design completed by SHH Architects in Biggin Hill Airport, London (for private aviation group Rizon Jet). The project was developed on two levels and has a surface of 478 square meters (first floor), plus an attic space of 186 square meters. The customer’s brief implied a 6-star hotel lobby with a comfortable lounge feel: “The idea was to create a space where people want to spend time,” asserted architect Guy Matheson. This was achieved by using a simple and calm color palette, luxurious finishes, a significant amount of custom-made furniture, and a strong emphasis on comfort and convenience. The main space is a dramatic double-height volume, which is divided into two rooms with different treatments and variations in the levels of privacy so that customers can easily find an enjoyable space while waiting for their air fare.
