| Mirroring Adjoined Houses in Aspen Displaying a Discreet Rivalry Posted: 05 Aug 2011 05:04 AM PDT Studio B Architects designed this home – Nove 1 – in Aspen, Colorado. The project “consists of two adjoined and related cousins on a corner site and is often thought of as a 'sibling rivalry'“. The opportunity given by the clients brought a new way of looking at architecture: the creative minds behind this project separated the two individual houses with a concrete demising wall designed to rise up from the sand. A strong relation between the two properties can be seen in the architecture and interior design. Trying to overcome the privacy issues, the architects from Studio B Architecture created a pattern for the windows, ensuring privacy for the inhabitants of each house, for each level and terrace. Using beautifully composed architectural elements, the architects created modern facades for both buildings: “The exterior material palate is simple yet elegant and is comprised of Italian marble slabs, mahogany siding with reveal details adding a depth to the skin and aluminum-clad doors and windows.” The interiors seem mirrored and offer both a wide, double-height space for everyday living and entertaining. The walls are thus perfect for art collections proudly displayed. Wooden floors and carefully selected furniture create a welcoming ambiance in each home. How do you feel about these mirroring houses?

| An Intriguing Furniture Collection: Buddha Head Table and Pouf Posted: 05 Aug 2011 03:06 AM PDT Here is a furniture collection that will not leave you indifferent. Buddha head table and pouf were designed by 21st Living Art and make for some intriguing decor additions. Here are a few words from the producers: “Beato Pouf and Pacifico Table fully satisfy the use they were designed for. They have a strong symbolic value that actually dilutes their seemingly ironic and “peaceful” appearance. The head of Buddha, symbol of a faraway culture, is used here in a new way as seating, becoming an easy and versatile piece of furniture. Beato Pouf therefore becomes part of our relaxing moments, integrating itself in the surrounding space almost like a piece of history. Pacifico Table wants to tell us its story. As we sit around it we can take in its beauty and appreciate it for its simplicity and immediacy.” What is your opinion on these furniture items? Would you consider having them in your home?

| An Office Just Perfect for a Creative Advertising Agency by Zouk Architects Posted: 05 Aug 2011 01:56 AM PDT We received a project that touched our creativity soft spot. Zouk Architects designed a fabulous (and by fabulous we mean fun and highly original) 135 sqm office for advertising agency Moove Media in Australia. Here is the description the architects sent: “Brief of the project is to create a “non office” office for the exciting new outdoor advertising business, Moove Media Australia. The parent company is Singapore based and Moove Media logo incorporates image of a cow where the milk crate idea is derived from. The office or as the client called it their “paddock”, is an open plan office consisting of a reception and waiting area, 2 glass enclosed offices, working desks and a meeting room. The rooms are separated by feature divider made out of randomly stacked black and red milk crate and old chinese door panels. This feature wall creates ample of storage and display spaces. The milk crate is also transformed into unique light fittings and furnitures in the waiting area. The meeting room is furnished with informal tables and chairs with backdrop of newspaper lined feature wall with red graphitti writing representing the company’s motto: ” I hear I forget, I see I remember, I do I understand” [Photographer: Dieu Tan Photography]

| Twin Houses Reflecting Contemporary Architecture and Interior Design Posted: 05 Aug 2011 12:50 AM PDT It’s hard to create a fascinating residence, it’s even harder to design twin houses that communicate with each other through design, placement and details. The Twin Houses you can admire below were designed by MGP Architecture. The architects describe the project: “Two eloquent, L shaped concrete containers that depend on each other in order to live individually. Each house complements its neighbour to configure the central patio and to have intimacy at the same time. The houses live inside from the outside. The concrete containers shape both patios in a sequence descending on the terrain. The inner and the outer spaces merge and acquire the same spatial value.” Located in Bogota, Colombia, the Twin Houses cover a total surface of 1.136 square meters, displaying entertaining and private spaces especially created to offer comfort and privacy. Maybe sometimes you just need to see a reflection to get inspired – in this case, there are plenty of inspirational design accents and architectural details for you to enjoy.

| Modern Hotel with an impressive Architecture in the Czech Republic Posted: 04 Aug 2011 08:32 AM PDT Karel Říha of AMOSdesign sent us some photos of Hotel Miura, located in the north-western part of the Czech Republic. The further description is an excerpt from the press release we received: “Architecture of the entire building is rough as the surrounding mountains but at the same time cozy where it should be. Predominantly, it is made of concrete; on the outside, the concrete is combined with corroding corten sheet and violet glass. The case of the building is made of cembonite boards. Inside, concrete meets wood, stainless sheets and corian. The whole building is divided into 3 parts; one of these levitates freely above the terrain. Hotel rooms are situated in side wings and all are oriented southwards facing the golf course. Suites have glassed walls with a view of the Lysá hora mountain and surroundings. The central part of the building hosts a reception-desk with a lobby bar and a summer terrace, a night bar and a restaurant with a beautiful terrace permitting to watch what is going on at the golf course”. The hotel is said to exceptionally combine sports, luxury and art. We look forward to your reactions regarding its contemporary design.
