| Spanish Summer House by Interior Designer Marta Esteve Posted: 02 Aug 2011 04:19 AM PDT A home in the town of Cadaques on Costa Brava in Spain caught our attention today. The fascinating use of natural colours throughout the house creates an inviting ambiance that links the interior spaces to the inspiring outdoors. Spanish interior designer Marta Esteve was the mastermind behind this interior transformation we found on MiCasaRevista. She used every resource available to create a specific charm for this two-storey residence. A natural colour palette and modern furnishings create a chic atmosphere in this summer house. Besides working as the interior decorator, Marta Esteve also designed some key pieces seen inside: the fireplace in the living room and the bed’s headboard in the master bedroom, which extends into the shaped end tables. Fascinating views over the water exploit the natural surroundings in a successful attempt to connect the interior design to the surrounding landscape. Cosiness and comfort are the two defining characteristics of this home. Glass windows and insertions help create a seamless design that blurs the lines between the inside and the outside.

| Enjoying Your Garden this Summer: Natural Swimming Pools Ideas Posted: 02 Aug 2011 03:10 AM PDT These natural swimming pools seem to have been created as dream pools before we even got the chance to imagine it for ourselves. The first pool, with its softly sinuous descending path adorned with natural stone, leaves the impression of a carefully designed combination of traditional materials on one end and sleek, modern design on the other. Created by Clear Water Revival, these custom-made swimming ponds infuse your garden with luxuriant plants and modern pool design. To get an idea on how the pools are built, the Bristol Pool seems to be a great example. Seen here in the first two pictures of the post, the 6m x 20m pool – for optimum lap swimming - “relies on the surrounding regeneration zone to filter the water naturally and will receive passive solar gain from the shallow areas and the black lining used. On site resources and rock were used in the design to better integrate into the landscape.” Bristol-based Clear Water Revival designs and constructs natural swimming pools and natural swimming ponds – each made to be easy to use and have comfortable maintenance, to display naturally filtered clean, clear water with no chemicals or salt. Where would you place your natural swimming pool in your garden?

| Modern Expression of Architecture in a Historic Neighbourhood Posted: 02 Aug 2011 01:53 AM PDT Welding together copper panels, wood, concrete and glass in a two-storey modern residence, designer Jason Fort created a home perfectly adapted to the changing neighbourhood. The exterior will age with time, better integrating the home between the historic houses dating back to the 1800′s. Located in St. Augustine, Florida, the 2,400 square foot residence features windows placed to capture interesting architectural elements of the surrounding houses. A 400 square foot sky deck invites to entertaining or relaxing under the bright sun or the star-filled sky. Trying to visually connect the residence to its surroundings, designer Jason Fort counted on colours, materials and modern techniques to help him: “With the use of natural materials and muted colors the design aims to blend with the palette of the older adjacent structures. The home requires minimal maintenance and is designed to acquire an exterior patina as it ages. The exterior of the structure incorporates copper panels on north face of building, and concrete and wood. The hardwood siding was meticulously installed using 8000+ stainless steel screws, each hole hand drilled and countersunk. The interior is open and airy with large doors at the rear pivoting open to the pool, tropical landscaping and garden.” The interiors feature the designer’s personal preferences – he is also the owner of the home – and represent his first completed single family residential project. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms make up the private quarters on the upper floor, while entertaining spaces are gathered downstairs. Enjoy a visual tour of the residence below!

| Complex Apartment Design Showcasing Intriguing Details Posted: 02 Aug 2011 12:27 AM PDT Welcome to an apartment that features a variety of appealing decorative elements. The overall feel this home is that of coziness. It is as if a happy family was living here, without having a care in the world. Designed in a typical Scandinavian style, the crib consists of three rooms plus kitchen and each interior has its own personality. The living room displays quite a few interesting traditional furniture items which blend well with more contemporary details. Colorful pillows and delightful flower arrangements do a great job in cheering up this part of the house. One of the kitchen walls is covered by a flower wallpaper, which contrasts nicely with the surrounding white furniture. Large windows insure a good light flow all through the apartment. The bedroom is particularly appealing due to a subtle color palette, traditional flooring and a giant bed. Any inspiring details you feel we unfairly left out?

| Average Home Sizes of the World Gathered in a Chart Posted: 01 Aug 2011 08:03 AM PDT According to a survey of British Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, complaints from residents of new-build developments have created the need for a chart that shows growing concern for small space residential developments. British homes – floor area and room sizes – are the smallest in all Europe, so you can understand why people wonder where to fit in the couch or how to maximise the cooking space in the kitchen. According to BBC, “British new-builds are less than half the size of those in the United States and Australia.” The team at Curbed gave people a heads up concerning the small-scaled homes around the world. The survey questioned residents of homes built between 2003 and 2006, in London or within an hour’s travel time of the British capital. Do you have space for all the necessary things in your home?
