| Display of Exquisite Traditional Details in a Spanish Island Home Posted: 29 Jul 2011 05:47 AM PDT We ran across a truly spectacular home located on the Spanish island of Formentera. This is not the common-looking contemporary residence we usually feature on Freshome, but dare we say, a much more inspiring crib. We were truly impressed by the overall feel of this place which seems to emanate peacefulness, simplicity and an overall holiday sensation. Seen on The Style Files, this home is situated in a delightful setting, which it takes full advantage of. The outdoor areas are more than inviting: a generous pool with colorful and cozy patio furniture allure the inhabitants for a fresh drink and a sunbath. The interiors feature well preserved traditional details. The core of the house is a charming living room built on two levels. Original furniture elements are the salt and pepper of this delightful Spanish crib, which we invite you to discover in the pictures below. [Photos by Jordi Canosa]

| Swedish Combination of Traditional Elements and Modern Design: Lima House Posted: 29 Jul 2011 03:45 AM PDT Lima House comes from Swedish architect Johan Sundberg. The infusion of traditional elements into the contemporary architecture is represented by the unification between two apparently different designs: the traditional shape of the saddle roof and the distinguished elegance of the sleek modern design. In the seaside summer resort where this residence is located – Limavagen, Hollviken, Sweden – the conditions were perfect for its inhabitants: a young couple looking to start a family. The architects working on this project saw its architecture as an opportunity: “From a designer’s point of view this building type is a challenge. A traditional saddle roof is to be combined with a held-back modern design. This leads to challenges around the roof edges. Large glazed sliding doors and crisp dormers require steel reinforcements within the timber frame. The design dissolves the traditional 1,5 story bottom level plan and opens up the structure both over the corners and up through the first floor. Lines-of-sight penetrate the house and the window positions work to frame the scenery on the outside.“ All the elements described by the ones who worked on this astounding project preserve a sense of comfort. This makes me wonder if this combination of Swedish traditional design and modern building techniques and materials is the next step in owning a balanced, comfortable house.

| A Creative Furniture Design Concept: Bear Table Posted: 29 Jul 2011 02:33 AM PDT Well here is something we don’t see every day. The Bear Table is an innovative concept (unfortunately we did not find the name of the project developer, so if you could help us here, that would be great) that aims at blending sculpture with functionality. This product draws attention due to a large bear shape that supports the more-familiar table top. We find the details of the sculpture to be quite interesting and even though this design could seem a bit “extravagant”, we appreciate its boldness. The two color combinations in the photos (green and brown, black and brown respectively) are equally daring and could suit a modern interior with a strong personality. According to HomeTone, the product glorifies the strength of the bear, an animal with unique characteristics, inspiring both power and fear. So… love it or hate it?

| Contemporary Adult’s Tree House: Citriodora Residence in Australia Posted: 29 Jul 2011 12:59 AM PDT Citriodora House was designed by Seeley Architects and is located near Great Ocean Road in Anglesea, Australia. Integrated within lush Lemon scented gums, the residence gets its name from the botanical term used to define these beautiful trees. Here is an excerpt from the architects’ official project description: “Inspired by the affects of the coastal winds, the form of the roof gently rolls, mimicking the shape of the wind pruned coastal vegetation. There is both simplicity and complexity in this building with large negative spaces offering views to the sky, battened screens proving visual privacy to the neighbours and two massive concrete walls forming a prehistoric spine through the middle. A thermal heat soak for the interior that mediates the diurnal temperature variations within the house. The layout of the house is centered around a raised east facing living platform capturing coastal views and connections into the treetops. It is reminiscent of an adult's tree house“. How do you appreciate this building’s facade? How about its interiors- anything there that got your attention?

| Unequalled Artistic Ceiling Installation by Takeshi Sano Posted: 28 Jul 2011 11:41 PM PDT A fascinating Tsujita Ceiling Installation awaits admirers in the interior of the Tsujita restaurant in Los Angeles, California. Japanese designer Takeshi Sano worked on this project with passion and a desire to integrate art in the interior design. The ceiling design gathers 25 thousands wooden sticks in a pattern, creating an atmosphere dominated by its majestic appearance. The cloud-shaped design has to emphasize its own beauty and mystery. The ceiling was designed to create a feeling of visiting Japan. This is explained by the designer: “I'd like people to feel the delicate of beauty, which Japanese have, and Japanese atmosphere when they visit here so that they will think that they want to visit Japan. I'd like to make this restaurant as one of an element for Japanese reconstruction.” What do you think about this idea to transform a ceiling into a work of art?

| Dakar Sow House : Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean Posted: 28 Jul 2011 09:56 AM PDT Captured between two changing shades of blue – the sky and the Atlantic Ocean – Dakar Sow House rises on a cliff just above the immense stretch of water. Constructed areas cover a surface of 1,402 square meters, and the residence is the result of collaboration between the architects of SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) and Antoni Associates as interior decorators. Because the residence is inhabited by a Senegalese businessman and his young family, it had to be designed in a way that encompasses all the family’s needs. Designed to offer the best floor plan possible for enjoying extensive panoramic views, the Dakar Sow House features a long hallway crossing the house from the study area – built as a separate volume – to the kitchen, with all the other rooms extending from it. The house in Dakar, Senegal features a gaming/family room, a large lounge, a kitchen, barbecue terrace and pool terrace, as well as guest room adjacent to the private gym and reflecting pond. Another interesting thing is the arrangement on the site and the house’s location on the edge of a cliff, which includes keeping part of an old World War Two bunker and transforming it into an underground cinema, connected to the house with a spiral staircase. What more could you want from a modern home like this one? 1,402 sqm Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

| London Aquatis Center Completed for the Olympic Games in 2012 Posted: 28 Jul 2011 08:59 AM PDT We were delighted to see this remarkable architecture project completed one year before the London 2012 Olympic Games. | 15 Practical and Unobtrusive Ideas to Park Your Bike Indoors Posted: 28 Jul 2011 07:57 AM PDT We know how storing your favorite bike can sometimes prove to be a mind puzzler. That is why today we decided to round up some clever and practical ideas for storing bikes in the comfort and safety of your own home. As you can see, solutions exist: from simply hanging your bike on a free wall to letting it rest on the floor on various supports, you could say bringing your two-wheel vehicle indoors is solely a matter of personal wish. Meaning there are actually no impediments, even if you are confronted with a small space. However, lovely results can be achieved by painting your bike in the colors of the apartment or hanging it on the wall in an unconventional position (see the photo below for example). No matter how you decide to “attach” your bike to the overall arrangements of your apartment, its mere presence will ensure dynamism and a unique personality. So why not simply give it go and forget about all those bike storing issues? In the end, we are eager to find out what ingenious solutions did you come up with so far for blending your bicycle with the design of your crib. We would love it if you would leave your answers below.
