| Sleek Ocean Liner Inspired Croatian Hotel in Rovinj: Hotel Lone Posted: 28 Jul 2011 06:44 AM PDT Having designed Hotel Lone as a fabulously contemporary place to enjoy a vacation, 3LHD Architects searched for better ways to induce a feeling of comfort and relaxation suited for those blissful days without work. Located in Rovinj, Croatia, in the exclusive Monte Mulini neighborhood, the hotel features 248 rooms – all conceived to offer exceptional services and quality facilities. Inspired by the typology of 1970s Croatian hotels, Hotel Lone displays a stunning resemblance to a “sleek white ocean liner floating on the hillside“. Guests checking in can enjoy the multitude of services and facilities the hotel has to offer: three restaurants, three bars and a night club, a Mediterranean-inspired wellness center, a 600-seat auditorium and nine meeting and conference spaces featuring state-of-the-art technology. Organized to resemble the Croatian coast terraced hotels with large lobbies, Hotel Lone features “a "Y"-shaped structure created along the coast to give all rooms spectacular sea or park views, and a dramatic hotel lobby opens up towards the sky with an atrium spanning six levels. Respect for the environment is shown in the interior design, with integration of the natural surroundings into many of the hotel's public and private spaces through large glass walls and mirrors.“ Did the hotel’s architecture and interior design convince you to spend one of your holidays there?

| A Great Place of Retreat: Modern Home in St. Helena, California Posted: 28 Jul 2011 02:35 AM PDT Butler Armsden Architects designed an impressive looking modern home in St. Helena, Napa Valley, California. Using a highly contemporary approach, the designers aimed at creating a home suited for a retired couple. The owners’ need for peacefulness was met by a complete isolation from the street ensured by a garage and studio that are interposed between the living spaces and the passers-by. The interiors are quite spectacular, featuring modern arrangements and appealing interior design details. The overall feeling is that of space and comfort. A generous open plan living room with pool views connects the first floor with the one from above through a lovely stairway with wooden steps. | Turning a Mid-Century Building into a Captivating Modern Crib: Elm House Posted: 28 Jul 2011 01:13 AM PDT Elm House is a striking 1955 home renovation achieved by Mitchell Weisberg. The residence has a total living area of 2,069 square feet and accommodates four bedrooms and three bathrooms. A large courtyard directs the visitors towards the garage and the main house entrance. This may be a mid-century building, but nothing in its interior design betrays this fact. The interiors are highly modern, with floor to ceiling glass windows which provide exceptional views of the surrounding landscape. The core of the residence is an open plan living room with a large socializing area, an all-equipped kitchen, a dining table and a contemporary fireplace. The white traditional ceiling makes an interesting contrast with the design details below. A generous outdoor terrace communicates with the living room. This is a perfect place for a barbecue and/or friend gatherings. What do you think of the interior decors this home displays?

| Exterior Home Slats Based on Fibonacci Series of Numbers: HHGO Garden Residence Posted: 27 Jul 2011 10:21 AM PDT HHGO Garden Residence was designed by architects Sören Hanft in collaboration with Jens Casper and is located in Oldenburg, Germany. According to the project developers, “the horizontal slats of different widths are based in their arrangement on the Fibonacci series of numbers” (a number sequence where every number is obtained by the sum of the previous two numbers) : “This creates an anomaly that affects the design harmoniously. The silvery-brown to dark gray-colored glazed larch wood, the structure can be visually blend with the natural surroundings of the garden and takes the same color of the weathering of the wood in advance. While the facade of the exterior into the interior continues to draw the boundaries between inside and outside are broken up visually. The house is divided into three units, which are sensitive in their regional planning (optimal) are adapted to the lifestyle and the (future) needs of residents“.
