| Cascading Residence with Originally Integrated Pool in London Posted: 27 Jul 2011 05:00 AM PDT The architecturally-intriguing Sheldon Avenue Residence was designed by Belsize Architects and is located Highgate, the famous London suburb. According to the project developers, the layout of the residence is "U" shaped, set round a glazed, triple-height 'cascading' atrium. The circulation spaces are arranged around the edge of the atrium, with the exception of the primary staircase and 'bridge', which sit as steel-and-glass elements within the surrounding solid surfaces. The overall form is articulated by a 'stepped' arrangement in section to create a succession of tiered levels, culminating at the bottom in a basement swimming pool. The pool partially extends into the garden with an openable connection to an external sunken courtyard and, beyond, to the landscaped rear garden. This connection blurs the distinction between interior and exterior. A large sheet of structural glass in the floor of the entrance area establishes a visual link with the swimming pool beneath.." How do you appreciate the design of this “giant staircase-home”?

| Colorful Apartment Pleasantly Combining Traditional and Modern Design Ideas Posted: 27 Jul 2011 01:53 AM PDT We found this charming crib on Oscar Makleri, which stands out due to a fascinating combination of modern and traditional furniture elements. Moreover, its design seems to be invaded by color and energy; everywhere you look, there is bound to be a dynamic furniture piece that contributes to the positive atmosphere this place emanates. The focal point of the crib is an open plan living room consisting of an eye-catching lounge area. Two large red sofas, a white and inviting armchair and two blue ottomans make for a delightful socializing space. The inclined window wall ensures some great views over the surrounding historical neighborhood. Traditional items are spread all across the apartment, pleasantly contrasting the modern details. The carpets, small wooden chairs and tables, the chandelier and golden picture frames, these are magnificently blended in the design, making the overall results absolutely seductive. How do you find this eclectic mix?

| Minimalist yet Stunning Looking Home by the Lake Posted: 27 Jul 2011 12:47 AM PDT We were fascinated by the location of this home in the Ekero municipality in Stockholm County, Sweden. The aerial view of this 8 bedroom family residence found on Oscars Makleri is truly captivating. Situated in a place where nature offers some of its lush side, the crib makes the most of the nearby trees and lake. The whole house is characterized by spacious and bright living areas with large windows and terraces with sweeping views. The ground floor consists of a generous living area with kitchen, fireplace and dining room. Large windows provide great light inflow and an unobstructed view of Lake Mälaren. From the kitchen one can reach the large terrace on the sunny side of the property. On the second level there are two bedrooms, one of which is a generous master bedroom with large windows communicating with a terrace of 33 square meters, a living room and a bathroom. We invite you to take a virtual tour of this home and tell us what you think.

| Faultless Design and Energy Efficiency: Tiburon Bay House Posted: 26 Jul 2011 10:17 AM PDT It is hard to find something wrong with this captivating looking modern residence. Tiburon Bay House was designed by Butler Armsden Architects and is cleverly integrated in a rich natural environment When designing this residence, the architects were tasked to create an energy sustainable home. As a result, “the floor plan of the house is centralized around a vertical stair to minimize circulation for people and utilities. The rooms are then allowed to spiral away from this core to take advantage of the views and the garden. An exterior bridge that serves as an outdoor living space also connects the garden to the house and solves the difficult problem of entering a house on a fairly steep uphill site. All of the materials used in the project are recycled or sustainable and in some cases, like the retaining walls, were salvaged from the foundations of the original house. Electricity and hot water are solar powered, and there is even a complex water reclamation system that is technologically ahead of the local building codes“. We were pleasantly surprised by the interior design of this place, characterized by a contemporary style, mixed with good taste. How would you characterize this modern crib?
