| Creative & Modern Summer Family Retreat in New Zealand Posted: 30 Mar 2011 04:14 AM PDT The Bourke House is a beautiful modern home designed by Pacific Environments Architects and located in Matakana, New Zealand. Here is an excerpt form the architects’ project description: “The original family summer cottage relocated to next door made way for a new campsite – conceptual 'tents', formed as connected pavilions. Inspired by and embodying intergenerational memories – the essence of long summer holidays, activities, collections, connections and stories. A family retreat, created to both experience (and be protected from) the elements and nature, providing a sustainable fulfilling lifestyle, and maximizing sea-views. The pavilions are linked, forming a protective backing to the central space – the 'campsite heart' – as a gathering space, providing comfort, protection and connection with the land and activities. Main pavilion invites relaxation and nourishment, raised to acquaint with the coastal islands. Adjacent is the protective sleeping pavilion being adaptable for experiencing the ambience of the campsite and outlook; or being closed off for privacy.” Freshome readers, how would your perfect summer retreat look like?

| Breathtaking Medieval Building Turned Into Contemporary Living Space Posted: 30 Mar 2011 02:12 AM PDT Located in the core part of Girona’s medieval quarter and overlooking the Plaça de Sant Domènec, Spain, this is a property called Alemanys 5 within an original building dating back to the sixteenth century. The house has been recently renovated by architect Anna Noguera and has and incredible design which integrates old and new, integrates traditional and contemporary elements: “The new layout respects the logic of the structure to adapt it to the new functional requirements. On the ground floor, from the main door, the vestibule and small premises are accessed, on the first floor are a dwelling with an exit to courtyard and garden, and the second and third floors accommodate a duplex dwelling, with the night zone in the lower floor and the living room and kitchen in the upper floor to provide vistas and a roofed terrace. The project is organised around the two centrelines that structure the floor plan. The staircase has been shifted to place it next to the lift, in the interstitial space between the two directional lines of the centrelines. This space is configured as the hinge that generates the entire layout“.- stated Anna Noguera, architect of Alemanys 5. We are looking forward to your impressions about this diverse and unique project.

| “Muir” Wall Coat Hanger with Slot for Papers and Envelopes Posted: 30 Mar 2011 12:56 AM PDT If you are the type of person to misplace random bills, here is a way to get organized with ease. This wall coat hanger comes from Amenity Home and at a first glance looks just like an ordinary wooden coat rack. The designers however came up with the idea of adding an extra purpose. This is why the product has a special storage place for papers, bills, envelopes and even newspapers. We imagine this characteristic is very handy, especially when one is in a hurry and needs to drop something off rapidly. Placing a piece of paper in the support does not necessarily imply a fast finding, but ensures the object is safe. The “Muir” coat rack is available online here for $197 (5 Peg) or $233 (6 Peg, larger dimensions). Freshome readers, did you ever come up with an odd design furniture combo ?

| Robust & Modern Family Apartment in Melbourne by dKO Architecture Posted: 29 Mar 2011 10:12 AM PDT
A restrained colour palette of earthy neutrals highlighted with pops of vibrant colour helps to provide warmth and a connection with the environment that might otherwise be lost within the apartment embedded in the surrounding concrete jungle. The material, finish and furniture intent was driven by our client's desire to create a warm and open family environment, a notion which was largely contradicted by the cool, hard finishes and low ceilings of the existing space. Furniture selections are elegant and grounded in order to visually heighten the space, whilst warm, textural upholstery selections are robust enough to withstand the rough and tumble of small children and family gatherings.” Ready for more amazing design ideas? | Eco Friendly 3D Wall Panels for Creative Interiors: WallArt Posted: 29 Mar 2011 08:54 AM PDT WallArt is an innovative way to add “an extra dimension” to your home. Fun and original, these eco-friendly 3D panels are a great alternative to the common wallpaper and have a strong aesthetic effect. According to the producers: “the modern and eco friendly 3d wall panels are made out of the fibrous residu of sugarcane. This fibres of crushed sugarcane stalks, remaining after raw sugar is extracted from the juice of the sugarecane by shredding it, is now the raw material, called bagasse, that forms the base of this easily installed eco friendly product. The raw material used for our 3d wall panels is 100% recycled, compostable and is therefore 100% biodegradable“. With various colors and designs, these 3D panels can be integrated within a variety of modern decors, as long as things are kept simple and stylish.
