Designed by Cape Town’s most beloved architect, Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects (SAOTA), the rental building was named First Crescent Villa. Showcasing a wonderful open space, with a lot of light caressing the interiors, the villa has a simple design that surprises through quality and carefully chosen materials used for building it. A large outdoor skylight further connects the building to the landscape and the huge windows allow the natural view to contrast with the impressive, contemporary interior. The creator and designer of this astonishing building sees it like "a minimalist home commanding a 270 degree view of Lions Head, Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. All living spaces have a great connection to the covered or uncovered terraces. The living spaces are highly transparent to take full advantage of the views. Incredible Everland Hotel in Paris with Front Row Seats to Eiffel Tower Posted: 11 Feb 2011 03:39 AM PST Hotel Everland was designed by Swiss architects Sabina Lang&Daniel Baumann and stands for a few “capsule” hotels located in spectacular places around the world. In today’s post we would like to present Everland Hotel in Paris, which is in fact a one room hotel with amazing views over the City of Lights. Initially situated on the roof of the Leipzig Gallery of Contemporary Art, the 10 ton “capsule” was moved on the roof of the Paris Palais de Tokyo with the help of a 20 ton crane. Here is more on the concept from the designers: Everland is a Hotel with only one room including a bathroom, a king-size bed and a lounge. The bounteous dimensioned room represents the subjective dream of a hotel: the architecture, the playful details, as well as the request to steal the golden embroidered bath towels. All Everland guests are partaking in the project. All facets are important constituents of the artistic idea: The room can be booked for one night only, the mini-bar is fully stocked and included in the price, breakfast is delivered to the door and a record collection stands at ones disposal. How to Create a Master Bedroom in your Attic Posted: 11 Feb 2011 01:01 AM PST If you are fortunate to have an attic in your home, if you haven't converted it already, you may be missing out on prime real estate for a master bedroom. An attic master bedroom enables you to have privacy, optimum views to the outside, and you can claim this extra square footage if you decide to sell your home. If you want to turn your attic into a master bedroom, here are some tips to see if it works for your home and lifestyle. Is attic living for you? While the idea of attic living sounds fabulous, ensure that you are ready for the transition from the main floor. While many people enjoy their master bedroom at the top of the house for the serenity, many don't enjoy the climb up the stairs. If you have small children, you may not want to be far removed on another floor. While if you have teenagers and a large family, the attic may be exactly what you need! Assess your family lifestyle and the layout of your attic in relation to other parts of the home to decide if a master bedroom attic will fit. What will it take to convert? The next step is to determine how much work, cost and house renovating it will take to convert your attic into a master bedroom. For older houses, the heating, ventilating and air conditioning will have to be run to the attic and possibly plumbing pipes. For many home owners, the expense of having to run new services to the attic is minimal in comparison to the benefit of added space and functionality. Before you get started, ask a contractor or a home improvement professional to assist you in estimating the costs. Remember return on investment (ROI) could bring  you back more money than you invested into the initial conversion. Bring in natural light: Since attics are at the top of the home, the option for natural light should be priority. While many homes don't have skylights, other options such as dormer windows which are located in the walls of the attic, as opposed to the ceiling, and even solar tubes can be installed to bring light into the master bedroom attic space. Along with natural light, views to the outside should be considered, as humans thrive on seeing daylight and fresh scenery daily. Take full advantage of the height and the views, you are at the top of the world, literally! Play up the beauty with decor: Attic spaces are beautiful for many reasons. One of the biggest is the gorgeous architectural lines of the attic roof lines, which in turn are your master bedroom ceilings. Play these up with beautiful coloring on the walls and adding emphasis to accentuate your attic's architectural space. For smaller attics, use lighter colors, and for attics with natural light pouring in, consider adding darker accent walls where the bed will be to add a focal point to your space. Attics that are converted into master bedrooms have so much potential. They can be a hidden treasure tucked away from the rest of the house, and they can look out upon the world for maximum enjoyment. If you are trying to determine what to do with your attic space, think about converting it into a master bedroom. Expressive Vacation House Composed of Surprising Geometric Volumes Posted: 10 Feb 2011 10:12 AM PST The surprising Ribbon Vacation House is located in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. Designed by Argentinean architects G2 Estudio, the residence is the vacation destination for two Tahitian families who wanted to be able to spend their free time together in a wonderful setting. The house is a large, relaxing common space that makes the inhabitants feel at home every time they visit. Built on an area of 4,300 square feet, and having a usable surface of 396sqm, the Ribbon Vacation House accomplishes every need of the families, from ample relaxation spaces to extremely beautiful panoramas enjoyed by each member. The juxtaposition of volumes that compose the structure of the house allows the space to be divided into different spaces with different functions. Avoiding damage from earthquakes, the architects decided to reinforce the building with a concrete support system. The rustic stone and steel-frame of the outer volumes create a sensational look.
