| Inspiring Home with One Garden per Level in Singapore Posted: 10 Feb 2011 05:52 AM PST The Meera House was designed by Guz Architects and is located on the island of Sentosa in Singapore. We consider it a daring and original project- after all, not many homes feature green spaces for every floor of the building. Here is a short description from the architects: The plots on the island of Sentosa are not large and neighboring buildings are built close to the sides of each house. Thus our strategy was to build a solid wall to each side neighbor to provide privacy where possible, while creating a central light and stair well which would funnel the sea breeze through the centre of the building.

| Creative Chair by Cody Stonerock with Nautical Design Influences Posted: 10 Feb 2011 03:36 AM PST Designer Cody Stonerock is the mastermind behind this creatively composed chair. The Kurven Chair has drawn inspiration from the nautical sphere, allowing a comfortable seating experience and a modern, beautiful shape. The designer is a student at University of Cincinnati and one of his teachers gave him 10 weeks to create the concept of a chair and then construct it. And so the Kurven Chair was born: a surprising place to rest, made from a bentwood frame and leather upholstery. Imitating a hammock, the chair can be used with or without the leather upholstery, which can be removed or changed with the material of your choice. The leather has a canvas backside which prevents it to stretch more than it should. The designer explains how the construction of the chair works in your advantage: “The leather seat can easily be attached or detached from the chair. The leather is sewn on each end into loops. The loops are attached by being placed through slots in the wood and anchored with a dowel rod.”

| Where Would You Like to Sleep Tonight? Map Cushions by My Bearded Pigeon Posted: 10 Feb 2011 02:30 AM PST My Bearded Pigeon is an Australian brand which stands for “love of vintage images and modern organic textiles”. In this particular post we would like to showcase a collection of vintage map pillows which are both creative and fun. The themed cushions feature maps of regions, countries and famous cities across the globe and could make for some original decorative elements. Moreover, their vivid color palette turns them into decor distracters, which are always good for spicing up the interior design of a particular room. Featuring tiny vintage maps of Paris, Chicago, New York, London, Sydney (and many others), the pillows could serve as an inspired gift for a traveler or for a friend with a strong passion for a certain city. According to Inhabitat, the products are available online at Etsy, for $ 50,81.

| Modern Addition to a Beautiful House for a Growing Family Posted: 10 Feb 2011 12:53 AM PST Once a new member comes into the family, you need to be prepared. This is what happened with the beautiful house in McMahon’s Point: a family of three became larger and needed to have their residence altered to fit the new lifestyle. They chose Stanic Harding Architecture to make their dream happen. Being a a Californian bungalow located in a conservation zone under North Sydney Councils control, the residence had to be renovated according to strict specifications but also taking into account the family’s needs. The zinc facade in the rear garden adds glamour to the modern shape of the building. With a new roof in the backside, opened to the northern sky, the residence received a stylish silhouette. The architects explain their choices: “The concept developed into one that by definition wore two faces, one that presented a well mannered side to the street being recessive, setback and allowing the existing house to be clearly legible and thereby by reinforcing the conservation zone streetscape objective and the other that was designed to relate to the small rear yard and present an elevational treatment that was in away an expression of the sectional view of the addition. The interior spaces have been adjusted to improve function and allow for considered connection to new outdoor living areas. Existing elements of worth have been incorporated into the design scheme, the bay window being an example.”

| Contemporary Entertaining-Based Residence with a Cool City View Posted: 09 Feb 2011 11:12 PM PST Looking at modern houses on a regular basis develops a quite strong relationship with architecture and interior design. Take this next residence as an example of a well-balanced dwelling with lots of space for entertaining, relaxation and comfortable living. The team from Dick Clark Architecture are the creators of this beautiful residence located in Austin, Texas and named The City View Residence. A strong connection was established between the outside and the inside, creating an inviting entertainment space that leads the party on to the deck where a swimming pool awaits the guests and inhabitants to enjoy their free time. The architects tried to explore every option to present the best possible solution for the family who wanted an eco-friendly, entertaining-based home: “We tried our best to have as little impact on the environment as well. The house has a 3kw solar panel system, instant hot water heaters, bio foam insulation, rain water collection that irrigates a good portion of the lot, very efficient mechanical systems, and low e glass. The plan is very open, there are visual connections between living/dining/kitchen. A see through oak screen separates the stair from the kitchen. To separate the public entry hall from the private bedroom wing, we did a floating bookcase/art display millwork piece, we used an ecosmart burner as well, it allowed us to create a fireplace mass that doesn't touch the ceiling which adds non-partition quality of the house. The siding is cypress, it runs inside and out."

| Unusual Shelving System Turns into a Table: Trick Bookcase Posted: 09 Feb 2011 10:36 AM PST Trick Bookcase is an unconventional modular furniture set especially created for small interiors. Found on Homedit, the unit occupies very little space and its functionality is double: it can be used as a small shelving unit or a bookcase, as well as a small table for two- chairs included! The uncommon furniture piece is very easy to assemble and to convert from one design to another. Made from wood, it has a minimalist appearance and is highly adaptable to almost any type of modern interior. We couldn’t help but noticing a negative aspect. Even though we appreciate the originality of this product, in most homes both of the items (bookcase and table) are required simultaneously. We imagine it is quite difficult -once the unit is used as a shelving system- to remove all the books and make it a table. What do you think?

| Inviting Home in Brazil with an Immaculate Design Posted: 09 Feb 2011 08:54 AM PST House Carqueija eas designed by Bento e Azevedo Arquitetos Associados and is located in Brazil. As seen on Arch Daily, the residence stretches over an area of about 260,00 sqm and takes advantage of the beautiful natural landscape within which it is integrated. Here is more information on the project’s structure from the architects: With a simple and efficient plan, it is a ground floor house with 2 rooms, a chapel and a large and flexible social area, which integrate living, dining and tv room in a open space, linked to the outside area through a porch. In order to have the best orientation, in a tropical county, the house closes itself from the front street view, which is west, and opens into the backyard, creating a privative and integrated place. That way, on the front facade, architectural elements, as a narrow windows and a pare-soleil was used to protect the house against solar irradiation, while the back facade, on east side, completely integrate the inside with the outside, through large windows, sliding doors and a porch, connecting the house with the green area. This modern home is not just “well organized”. Its beautiful white facade, the generous pool and terrace as well as its interior design make it inviting to say the least.
