| Exceptional Modern Home for a Large Family in Costa Brava Posted: 08 Feb 2011 07:00 AM PST This next modern detached house situated in Costa Brava was designed by architects Marta Garcia-Orte and Antonio Zamora. Receiving the name of the city it was built in, the House in Mont-ras exhibits a modern version of the surrounding architecture. Choosing to work with different materials and textures – stone, iron, concrete, steel or wood – the architects defined the space as a mixture of modern and traditional styles. Set on over 420 m2, the residence consists of 4 connected buildings that have access to the breathtaking Mediterranean landscape. Used by a large family, the house had to be both roomy and comfortable for each member. This is the reason for creating a large, open living space, surrounded by bungalows that include all the services needed for each family group. The interior design, created by Minim, was carefully connected on all the three floors to form a modern residential building. The ground floor houses the public areas, dining room, kitchen, living room and a double-height library. In the semi-buried basement, a leisure gym and a garage/workshop were placed, while the first floor contains the master bedroom with en suite, study, and direct views of the garden and pool.

| Cute & Fun Handmade Food Rings for Special Ocasions Posted: 08 Feb 2011 05:55 AM PST How long has it been since you had a crazy party in your home? We would like to make this post about fun and relaxation. These incredible looking handmade food rings were designed by SouZou Creations in Japan and can be bought online from Etsy, at a cost varying from $10 to $20. And being give that they have the ability of spicing things up, we think the “designs” are definitely worth it. As you can see, the rings are highly original, featuring various food courses and drinks, from pretzels to spaghetti and from the worldwide consumed Coke to milkshakes. The drinks even have decorations like small umbrellas and fruit. And did you happen to notice how intricate the plate designs are? We even saw a ring especially created for Halloween, featuring a few (not at all scary though) pumpkins. What do you think- cute or way too eccentric ? Ready for more amazing design ideas? | Fresh and Vibrant Home in London with Innovative Storage Solutions Posted: 08 Feb 2011 02:12 AM PST Kia Sunda from Kia Designs has recently sent us a lovely design project which we are happy to share. Here is the description we received: “This home is based in Highbury, North London, relatively close to the new Arsenal stadium. Although the clients gave us almost complete artistic control they also provided us with numerous specifications that needed to be fulfilled. It was of paramount importance that the 'living room' be spacious as the owners often use the room for yoga. In order to make the most of the available space in the room we designed beautiful bespoke shelving as well as a seating area by the window which also acted as a storage system for yoga mats!
The clients also specified that the room should have more of a 'winter' feel to it: in order to achieve the necessary warmth we chose a attention commanding blue which we felt was soothing and fresh, as well as inviting. The bedroom also required bespoke storage in order to house a number of items that would otherwise clutter the room. Many of the panels behind the bed are actually storage compartments and even the platform upon which the bed sits houses deep drawers. This project was made possible through the use of clever storage: although bespoke furniture is expensive it allows one to make the most of their precious London space and can make for a clean and stunning finished article.” (Photography of bedroom: Charlie Sunda (Artistic Director, Kia Designs, Photography of living room: Sylwester Przybylski).

| How to Choose Inspiring Lighting for your Reading Nook Posted: 07 Feb 2011 11:53 PM PST As our busy lives get more hectic, there is a higher demand these days to relax and find a quiet place to escape the world and enjoy personal time. Reading nooks are the ideal way to turn a corner of your home into a refuge and sanctuary for enjoying a good book or magazine. While the location is important, inspiring lighting to make you enjoy your reading nook is even more important. Lighting can make the difference in you staying for 5 minutes, or lingering until you finish just one more chapter. Here are tips to brighten your reading nook area.
Lighting your reading nook is as important as the big comfy pillows that you choose to adorn your area. Consider the same criteria when choosing lighting for your kid's bed side or reading nook areas. The ability to transform a corner of your home into a getaway retreat area is what recharges the human spirit, and gives us a break from the constant hum of smart phones and computers. Find some creative lights, or open up the blinds, either way, make your reading nook as inspiring as your favorite novel. Freshome readers tell us how you outfit your favorite reading nook with great lighting. Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

| Elegant and Practical Ladies Dressing Table, a Perfect Beauty Companion Posted: 07 Feb 2011 02:14 PM PST It’s been a while since we had a Freshome post especially for the ladies. This stylish dressing table was designed by Olgoj Chorchoj for Czech company Process and comes with an impeccable appearance: "A dressing table is not an interesting piece for most furniture manufacturers. That is why such a small solitaire piece is missing on the market. We designed the Princess as a jewel of its own for a demanding clientele" asserted Michal Froněk from the Olgoj Chorchoj studio. Minimalist, stylish and delicate, this table is in itself a display of femininity. Moreover, Princess is highly practical, as it features a large mirror that can be hidden under a circular wooden cover and plenty of drawers for makeup and jewelery. All these make for a courteous and pragmatic ladies “beauty companion”.

The living room offers white walls, high ceilings and wide wooden floors. To balance all that bright, there is a charming brick wall at one end of the room which forms a natural focal point as one enters. | Intriguing Pixel Art Born from Matches by Pei-San Posted: 07 Feb 2011 07:51 AM PST It is surprising to see what some artists use for instruments. Observing the outcome of such unusual works can make one truly believe nothing is impossible. Pei-San is an architectural designer and a multimedia artist born in Taiwan and raised in Los Angeles. We found some of her art works exhibited on TrendsNow and we think they are highly creative. We were all fascinated by matches when we were very young. After all, they do have some interesting particularities: they lit up, they burn and they slowly fade away, characteristics which makes them easy to be adapted to life feelings. A few projects caught our attention from the list below: the burning man with the heart of gold made of continuous lines that point to the heart, the “love on fire” project, made up of approximately 2,500 match sticks and representing romance and passion or destructions and jealousy and of course the burning dollar. We decided to display this post on Freshome, as we are certain some of these unique works would look interesting as home decorating items. Moreover, it could serve as an inspiration source for those of you willing to improvise while playing with matches.
