Let the Holiday Spirit Flow: Exquisite Wine Decanters from Etienne Meneau Posted: 21 Dec 2010 04:32 AM PST Here’s an idea that should make you enjoy your holidays to the fullest. Bordeaux based sculptur Etienne Meneau created the Strange Carafes collection in order to demonstrate “how wine becomes modern”. An unusual approach to wine decanters, his designs combine art with functionality and induce their viewers’ astonishment. Here is a statement from the designer: “My work turns around geometry and nature, I love to put some flesh on geometrical shapes… that’s why vegetal life interests me… It is a pure living geometry and algebra (for example the Carafe N°6 is inspired by a branch of fig tree)...” Whether they resemble “big hearts”, tree branches or blood vessels, these incredible looking decanters can transform a wine tasting gathering into a classy and unforgettable experience. The prices for these spectacular items is no less dramatic, going up to 2500 euros for one design. Looking forward to your impressions on these “sculptures for the connoisseurs”.

Enticing Apartment Combining Vintage and Contemporary Elements Posted: 21 Dec 2010 01:31 AM PST Sometimes, a cosy little apartment is all you need to feel happy at home, especially if the interiors are bright, colourful and personalized with lovely decorations and furniture that combine the vintage look with modern touches. This apartment seen at Stadshem inspires feelings of joy and an artistic way of playing with contrasting elements. White walls support artistic wallpaper, colourful paintings and useful shelves. The mix and match furniture seems to have been perfectly chosen for the apartment, but without the modern lighting and contemporary prints used all over the apartment, the feeling wouldn`t have been the same. Brown, white, green, yellow, red – bright colours and bold shapes turned the apartment into an exciting place to live. The white furniture in the kitchen has mismatched handles that add to the artistic feeling and vintage decorations fill the air with a memorable feeling of respect for the ages.

Cool Reading Corner with Original Storage System Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:33 AM PST Not too long ago, we wrote a Freshome post where we presented 35 cozy reading corners making it easy to enjoy every book to the fullest. Here is another idea that could be listed there. With a slightly different style, but an intriguing one nonetheless, the Book lounge chair comes from designer Jean Francois d’Or and displays a cool shape. The uncommon product occupies little space has built-in storage for books and magazines. The designer took advantage of the fact that the tight area between the backrest and seat is usually left out (at most it is filled with lost objects such as pencils or coins). This way a creative and practical idea for storing was born. But this chair is not just functional. With a flashy orange appearance it manages to brighten up a room and create a cheerful environment, perfect for a good read.

Countryside House Transformed into a Contemporary Home with Modern Details Posted: 20 Dec 2010 10:50 AM PST Whether you are thinking about buying a house or just browsing for ideas on how to decorate you home, this next house can accomplish both needs. The Carriage House is situated in Lamberhurst, Kent. It has two floors, both extremely comfortable and well designed. it used to be a service building from the turn of the 19th century, but designer Bob Giles turned it into a modern family home. Built in England, this home is just 4 kilometers from the small town of Lamberhurst, an idyllic place to spend time with the family in the middle of nature. The house is quite large, measuring over 3,000 square feet of internal space. Featuring five bedrooms, a large reception room, a dining room, a garden room with magnificent views of the countryside, and a raised decked terrace, the Carriage House encapsulates two eras: the old building accentuates the modernity of the glass additions. Modern technology brings comfort through the under-floor heating system. The transformation of this house from an old countryside place into a contemporary family home was a success.
