Delightful Family Crib with a Warm and Friendly Atmosphere : Fallen Maples Posted: 15 Dec 2010 05:14 AM PST Gelotte Hommas completed the Fallen Maples Home in Issaquah, Washington. Here is the Nestled into a large forested site, this home takes environmental sensitivity to a new level. Not only does it utilize the typical methods – ground-loop heat pump, extensive use of recycled products, excellent job-site management and a design that balances day lighting and heat loss. Maple trees harvested from the site were milled to provide the material for all the door and window trim, the cabinets, and special finish carpentry such as screens, a bench facing the kitchen, and the fireplace mantel. The result is a home that is truly of the site, not merely on the site. With all primary living spaces on the main floor, there is a strong connection between the house and the site. The great room features a soaring roof that opens to the trees that surround a small lawn area carefully sculpted within the forest. This roof extends over a partial upper floor containing bedrooms and a study loft that overlooks the great room. This is a delightful family home that truly connected to its site, both physically and emotionally.

Home of an Interior Designer with Rafael De Cardenas Posted: 15 Dec 2010 12:42 AM PST Ever wondered how the home of an interior designer looks like? Well here’s your chance to take a virtual tour of Rafael De Cardenas's crib, a highly creative one-bedroom apartment located in Manhattan. According to the description we received via e-mail, “the current setup is more a result of accumulation than decoration. The interiors are filled with artwork he's bought or traded from friends, objects he inherited from his mother or bought on eBay, and leftovers from past jobs. De Cardenas has lined the entryway in diagonal black-and-white stripes. The rest of the interior, though, owes more to his own interests than to his design philosophies — there's contemporary art all over the place and nostalgic items filched from his mother's house”. We really like the artistic energy that this apartment inspires as well as the colorful and vivid arrangements. But most of all, we salute this apartment’s originality and charm, despite its somewhat crowded appearance.- via Sight Unseen

Impressive use of Space and Concrete in A-cero`s Galicia House Posted: 14 Dec 2010 10:27 AM PST Another amazing home by A-cero drew our attention. This next architectural jewel, built in Galicia, reminds us of a fortress with majestic interior and exterior design. Breathtaking to say the least, the home was built on a 2.000 m2 terrain. The architects used the rough terrain as inspiration when building the house from cubic blocks and oblique walls. This is how the interior and exterior took shape: “The house is closed on the access façade, while it opens wide to the views on the opposite side“. This home has road access in three different directions, while the west side is dominated by a cliff. A-cero always surprise its audience with their ability to use the site of the future home in their favour. In this case, they played with volumes, space and light: “The interior solution follows a functional space distribution, coinciding with the blocks' intersections, over 3 floors. The different levels are connected by a series of flights of stairs, located on a fixed part of the building and ending on a beautiful glass floor corridor that connects with the upper level.“ The interior of the home features two bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms and closets, a gym, an imposing living area, a kitchen, a solarium and a wonderful terrace. Just take a look at the pictures and tell us what you think: which one is the most stunning of A-cero`s works?
