Prefab Luxury Residences, a Practical Architecture Trend Posted: 04 Nov 2010 02:07 AM PDT Prefab homes carrying eco-friendly features and recycled materials are the response of modern architecture to the growing concern of CO2 emissions. Homes across the globe now account for up to 25 per cent of all man-made CO2 emissions. Prefab homes parts are assembled in factories, so they reduce energy in construction and do not produce waste of materials on site. Many luxury developers have begun to work faster to offer clients a beautiful, modern home with eco-friendly features that can offer comfort and luxury for high-end buyers. Million dollars homes come prefabricated from companies like Huff Haus, Form and Forest or Acorn Deck House. Tailored to comply with any of the client`s needs, these prefabricated homes have only one thing in common with the "trailer park prefabs" that everyone is used to: the houses can be assembled in a very short time period. Luxurious prefab homes are starting to catch on as a new trend that brings together cutting-edge technologies and high-end materials to create a visually distinctive building. The price is also one of the luxury traits of these houses: around $300 per square foot. Made from precast concrete or recycled materials, luxury prefab homes offer many advantages: lot selection, fast construction and preview features. Catalogs from which clients can choose amenities are also available. The contemporary visual impact that these home can offer is created by architects instead of developers. Exterior insulations, solar power, massive glazed windows, luxurious floors and a tailored architectural design is what makes these homes sell for millions of dollars.

Creative Lamps Inspired by Cranes or How to Make Industry “Homey” Posted: 04 Nov 2010 12:35 AM PDT People usually have a fascinations for the way cranes work. The artists at Studio Job took this idea further and created two floor-standing bronze lamps, one resembling a wrecking ball and the other- a crane. Pretty impressive in height (1,63 meters), the designs are highly original and look pretty lifelike. We found out that these “art works” were exclusively developed for the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London, but we don’t know if any similar versions were launched on the market and if so, if they are available for sale. For more information on these unusual designs, you can contact the studio here. All in all, we salute this idea and can’t help imagining what it would be like to have such a lamp in your own room and control it by a remote. Would you accept this type of “industrial” element in your home?

Audacious Sofa Made from Coins by Johnny Swing Posted: 03 Nov 2010 10:13 AM PDT Money can make your life beautiful in many ways. It is said that not money itself makes you happy but how much money you have. Artist Johnny Swing recently gave a new meaning to the idea of having money. He constructed a whole business based on change. Different values and dimensions of coins came together to form a beautiful collection of furniture. The latest addition to this collection is "All the king`s men", a shiny sculptural piece of furniture. Smooth and sexy, this sofa will have you feeling glamorous and luxurious in your own home. This interior design masterpiece took a lot of time to be constructed from all those coins welded together but will be one of the most important pieces of furniture once you have it in your home. An underside steel rod support helps all the coins take the shape of a sofa. The thousands of half dollar coins let the artist play with the form that later became an amazing visual and metaphorical concept. Measuring 97″ x 52″ x 28″ inches, this iconic seating area can be seen at the Rabih Hage Gallery in London.

Elegantly Coping With Space Constraints: Y House in Japan Posted: 03 Nov 2010 09:14 AM PDT On Freshome, we are constantly overwhelmed with the creativity of Japanese architects. Usually located in a crowded urban environment, their projects must respond to the extreme constraints of space. The incredible Y-House by IDEAoffice is situated in Saitama, a city just 30 kilometres north of Tokyo. The owners of the residence wanted a place that would guarantee a high level of privacy, while in the same time making sure that every room got a large amount of natural light. The result was a three-floor sustainable home with a practical outdoor terrace which adds more living space. All rooms point to the central private garden, having no awkward contact with neighbors. The interiors are highly modern and suited for a family home. How’s this for coping with urban density? Photos: Kouichi Torimura.- via Space Invading
