Single-Family House in Mera-La Coruña by A-cero Posted: 22 Oct 2010 06:54 AM PDT If you read Freshome.com for some time you might be aware that A-cero is a comapany that has lots of projects on our website, and today they sent us another really cool house. In this post A-cero presents one of its first residential projects: a single-family house of 250m2 that tales place in Mera, a coastal village of La Coruña. It is a construction with a simple design based on straight lines and geometrical volumes. These architectural pieces have been created as terraces and corbels in the back façade from where is possible to see the spectaculars views of Atlantic Ocean. Limestone covered the whole building. Furthermore the housing's façade includes many large windows that give a lot of luminosity and spaciousness sensation. It is a threes-story building (basement, ground and first floor). The main access is locate din the left side. From this area the visitor is leaded until the lounge and living room. These rooms have a roof with double high and wide windows that look towards the porch and the exterior swimming pool. Kitchen is also communicated with these social rooms. The upper floor includes two bedrooms with terraces, bathrooms and dressing rooms. The garage and utilities rooms are in the basement. Impressive House with a Different Architecture in Sao Paulo Posted: 22 Oct 2010 05:26 AM PDT Marcio Kogan built an amazing house with a few features that differentiate this building from anything we have seen before. Located near the largest park in Sao Pauolo, Brasil, the Corten House is built on a narrow site that made the architecture possible: a rectangular home with a very high ceiling (5.2 meters)and four folding doors that open to an outdoor deck with an incredible fireplace.  The Corten House got its name from the weathering steel that covers the exterior. Materials used for enhancing this house`s aspect and functions are a blend of stone, wood, COR-TEN steel, white mortar and glass. Floor to ceiling glass doors in the back of the house offer enough transparency for the sun to reach both the living area and the bedroom.  Outside, the entrance matches the rusty colour of the Corten, but is actually made from wood and surprises guests that walk in through the striped wooden garage door that opens onto the street. The concept behind this house is an interesting one: a wooden cube holds the kitchen and utilities, while on its top the inhabitants can relax in the home theatre. The stairs between the cube and the main entrance leads to the next floor, where the three bedrooms are located. Another set of stairs leads up to the rooftop, an amazing deck protected by glass guard-rails where one can enjoy the heated pool while contemplating a breathtaking panorama of Sao Paulo. The interior design was conceived by Diana Radomysler and features stone walls as a perfect background for the contemporary neutral coloured furniture and intriguing art pieces. Spectacular Pool Home Offering a Diversity of Perspectives: DPR House Posted: 22 Oct 2010 03:57 AM PDT This fascinating home was designed by MCK Architects and meets our idea of a “surprise home”. We have to say that its facade first led us to believe this was a house exhibiting a traditional interior design, rather than a modern one. But a few steps around its entrance to the left or right are enough to demonstrate just how diverse this residence is. Each angle of sight is different and unexpected. Consisting of  asymmetrical volumes, it is hard to say how long it took for its inhabitants to really get to know their crib. And how great it must be to get familiar with every detail that it has to offer! The interior design features even more twisted visual effects (in a good way, of course). Everything spells out contemporary and except for the rectangular tables, nothing seems to have a definite shape. How’s this for an original display of modern living? How to Clean your Garage over the Weekend Posted: 22 Oct 2010 02:49 AM PDT What is the reason why you can't get your garage cleaned and organized? Is it the time it takes to organize it or is the daunting task of cleaning the garage too daunting? There are simple tasks that you and your family can do to help tackle your garage. Once your garage is organized, you may be able to park your cars, and have storage area at the same time.  Look at these helpful ways to clean your garage over the weekend, and help you find those suitcases that you lost last year! Have a garage sale: Whether you hold an actual garage sale, or if you sell items through the classifieds, your garage most likely contains items you don't need.  Spend one weekend analyzing what is in your garage, and group items in three areas: 1.) Items needed 2.)Items you don't need/use 3.) Give away items.  The items that you don't need should be thrown away if they're in disrepair.  For items you don't need and can give away, give to charity, sell, or donate to friends and family. Measure your space: Once you have purged, determine how much space you have after your cars are parked inside.  A good guideline is to draw an imaginary line from the garage door opening to the back wall of your garage.  Your storage and belongings shouldn't go over this 'line'.  Once you measure out your space, measure vertically how much floor to ceiling space you have.  Overhead and vertical storage is the secret to holding more in your garage. Determine your budget: Similarly to your house, the sky is the limit when it comes to garage organization. Decide if you want to hire a professional garage organizer that can outfit your space with cabinetry, storage and shelving or if you would prefer to do it yourself.  If you choose to do it yourself you can save money, and you can opt for lower cost open wire shelving and overhead storage. Customize storage by your belongings: If your household has more sports equipment than boxed storage, you may opt for open metal shelving to hold bins of sports accessories and hanging hooks for fishing rods, skis, and snowboards.  While if you have moved from a few houses, boxes and storage bins may be your main culprit of space.  Maximize vertical space by measuring heights of storage bins and installing shelving this distance from the ceiling. Save time and space: If you have large lawn equipment and accessories that take up too much room, consider buying a tool shed that can be housed in your backyard. This will help save time when rummaging through storage boxes and will save valuable space for other items.  Your garage should have all items easy to see, reach and access quickly and without falling over. Buy storage supplies: Once you have assessed your needs, purchase clear storage bins for seasonal items that you need to see quickly. Holiday decorations and seasonal items are perfect for clear bins.  Consider using stackable "banker boxes" or cardboard boxes with removable lids for papers and documents.  If you live in a humid climate make sure wood, and paper items are stored inside your home and not in the garage. For smaller items consider hanging a peg board for hand held tools, extension cords, and arts and crafts items. Your garage should be treated as an extension of your home. Therefore, the same care in cleaning and organizing you show on the interior of your home should apply to the garage.  Once you have cleared out what you don't need the organizing will be simpler, and you can tackle a new part of the garage each weekend until you have it completed.  If you choose to use our garage for crafts or a woodworking area – a clean and tidy garage will be a must! How to Create Inviting Curb Appeal in the Fall & Winter Posted: 21 Oct 2010 10:42 AM PDT In the spring and summer time, curb appeal is relatively straightforward in keeping your yard and surroundings looking green and manicured.  Once the cold weather comes, we tend to retreat back into our homes and forget about curb appeal.  Whether you are trying to sell your home or wanting your grounds to stay looking neat, curb appeal is important all year around.  You can still have a yard to be proud of by using these simple tips to create curb appeal throughout the cooler season. Pay attention to your lawn: Once your lawn goes dormant in the fall season, the grass may not need to be cut, but it still needs attention.  For warmer climates, removing weeds and edging can be done monthly to keep the lawn looking neat.  In colder climates that snow, keep sidewalks and entryways free from snow, ice and debris for safety and curb appeal. Prune shrubs and trees: Depending on the variety of shrubbery and trees you have it is important to cut them back before the dead cold winter sets in.  By cutting them they will look more manicured and will not drop as many dead branches, therefore causing debris in your yard and walkways. Bring color to your exterior: Even though the flowers are gone, there are still opportunities to bring color into your yard.  In warmer climates, flowers can be replaced with heartier shrubs in colors from deep purples to light greens.  In colder climates, decorate mailbox, and front entry areas with artificial greenery or hang a colorful wreath on your front door. Rubber mulch, pine bark or rocks are another way to add visual interest and color to your surroundings. Lighting is still important: How your home looks at night is important and can help guests arrive safely to your front door at night. Walkway lights and garage sconces will illuminate the walk and driveway, and cast a glow on your home. If you're trying to sell your home, many home buyers drive through neighborhoods at night to check safety and traffic patterns. Ensure your home won't be hidden in the shadows. Clean gutters and downspouts: Falling leaves, pine needles and miscellaneous debris will fall into your gutters throughout the season.  Check regularly if they need to be cleaned out. Overflowing debris is a sign to guests and potential home buyers that you aren't keeping up with maintenance on your home. Limit the holiday décor: While the holiday's means bringing out lawn décor and lighting, remember to keep it tasteful and limited.  If your lawn is covered with only holiday décor, your home will lose its curb appeal and purpose.  Take cues from popular home magazines on festive holiday outdoor décor that will enhance, rather than detract from your home. Add a coat of fresh paint: Before the winter sets in deep, why not add a fresh coat of paint to the exterior of your home? Your home could use the seal of weather protection from the moisture and elements and a new or fresh color always helps a home look new. Don't think that cooler weather means you don't have to pay attention to the outside of your home until spring!
