Creative Café Design Inspired by a Library in New York Posted: 20 Oct 2010 01:30 AM PDT This amazing interior design idea comes from Nema Workshop and belongs to a small Espresso Café located on Madison Avenue, in New York City. The idea was to create a strong identity for the bar that would immediately stand out and be easily recognized. Here is more information from the architects: “Inspired by the nearby Bryant Park Library, Nema Workshop designed a store that is straightforward in a simple twisted way – take a library and turn it SIDEWAYS. The booklined shelves become the floor and ceilings and wood floor ends up on the walls meanwhile the pendants protrude sideways from the wall. To achieve the books shelves on the floor, the space is lined with sepia-toned full size photograph of books printed on custom tiles.” We consider this idea to be bold, original and highly inspirational, but we have to say we would have liked this unusual café better if those library prints were real books- well, the ones on the walls at least. Cool Giant Wooden Clip Promoting Urban Art in Belgium Posted: 19 Oct 2010 10:34 AM PDT Here is a fun display of contemporary urban art at its best. This giant wooden clip is currently being showcased in Belgium, in the Chaudfontaine park, as part of a contemporary art exhibition. Designed by Mehmet Ali Uysal, the unusual park addition replicates the clip, a common smart tool used to hang clothes for drying. The giant clipper becomes the focal point of this particular area of the park shown below and looks great while adding a bit of originality to its surroundings. We have to say we salute this idea and wouldn’t mind seeing a similar project in some of our own city parks. Moreover, we believe urban art should definitely be encouraged, as it has the ability to transform a simple and unattractive space into an area that feels alive. We are looking forward to your thoughts on this creative idea.- via illusion 360 – Photos © Mmarsupilami

Amazing Monolithic Home in Switzerland with an Inviting Interior Design Posted: 19 Oct 2010 08:45 AM PDT Casa Larga was designed by Swiss architect Daniele Claudio Taddei and is located in Brissago, Switzerland. Overlooking a picturesque landscape and situated near lake Maggiore, the residence sits like a giant monolith which seems to guard the wonderful surrounding views. Here is more from the architects: “Despite its size, Casa Larga appears to be nearly weightless in this solid environment. This feeling intensifies upon entering the building. The light-flooded stairwell connects all the floors with a boyant wooden construction. The building is accessible from the basement floor and reaches up 4 stories in a tower-like fashion. Horizontal corridors have been dispensed with. Vertical lines dominate the building's motif, which is also echoed in the rhythmically placed, high-reaching windows.” The interiors of this imposing building are dominated by timber which creates a warm atmosphere. The floor to ceiling windows maximize the amount of natural light while in the same time offering stunning views for the inhabitants.

Loosecubes, Finding or Renting a Shared Workspace at a Push of a Button Posted: 19 Oct 2010 07:30 AM PDT Putting up a home office is a fun and easy job. But what about all those times when you need a coworking environment? Loosecubes is an online network that can help you find shared workspaces at a push of a button. With Loosecubes, you can advertise your own office that is able to accommodate coworkers or search for one to rent. Here is more information from the official site: “At Loosecubes, we want to change the way people work. Our members need the flexibility to work at home sometimes and in an office sometimes. We want the freedom to travel anywhere in the world and not have to worry about finding an internet connection and some intelligent people. We don’t think that Loosecubes hosts will participate just to make some extra money. We think they will participate because our members are people they want to get to know. They’ll participate because they believe, like we do, that the only way to be truly independent work-wise is to have great workspace available when you need it – without paying an arm and a leg.” Sounds practical?- via Swiss Miss
