Original and Intriguing 5 in 1 Home in Tokyo Posted: 25 Sep 2010 07:04 AM PDT In childhood many of us have probably drawn a sketch similar to the one belonging to the project in the photos below. You know, where you scribble a simple classical house shape and then you place another one on top? Even though this analogy has the risk of minimizing the effect that this original project might have, we only made the crazy comparison to highlight the overall simplicity of this idea and as you know, simplicity is bliss. The Tokyo Apartment building was designed by Sou Fujimoto and features five independent cribs connected through stairs. We really appreciate the uniqueness of this building, the way it contrasts the other neighborhood houses and its overall design. However, having to climb or descend a ladder every time you have to step into another room might prove to be irritating in time. How do you feel about this building? An Elegant Storing Solution : Original Built In Wardrobe Posted: 25 Sep 2010 04:31 AM PDT Tired of having too much much furniture occupying your living space just because your need for storage is growing substantially with each passing year? Here is an original and elegant solution to this problem. This stylish built-in wardrobe comes from Wogg and if it is integrated in the right interior, it can become almost invisible. Tucked away in a wall, it doesn’t take away any of the living space while in the same time offering plenty of room for storage. It has a wide variety of shelves that can host shoes clothes, books and anything else imaginable. With an elegant white design, this wardrobe goes great with almost any type of contemporary interior. The walls around it can be painted in dark colors for an appealing contrast, or in white for making this item close to invisible. Sounds practical? Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

Majorca House of Glamour and Glitter for Sale on eBay Posted: 24 Sep 2010 12:11 PM PDT For those of you who are easily impressed by gold, glamor, glitter and gadgets, here is a home that has all this and more. Located in Majorca, Spain and belonging to prince and talk show host Karl-Heinz Richard Furst von Sayn-Wittgenstein, the 10,700-square-feet living space is available for sale on eBay, for the sum of $28,000,000. The golden residence was inspired by the creations of Lugi Colani, a renowned German industrial designer whose works have a rounded, organic form. More than 1,230 square feet of 24-carat gold are said to be a part of this opulent residence whose appearance definitely has a strong effect. Moreover, you are looking at a home that is overrun by technology, as all the appliances are remote controlled. The six entrance doors featuring Swarovski crystals, the generous outdoor pool and statues complete this home’s image of a luxurious and flashy crib. So…love it or hate it?

Exquisite Family Home With Spectacular Views in California Posted: 24 Sep 2010 10:14 AM PDT The Carrillo Residence is yet another impressive project from Ehrlich Architects. Located in Pacific Palisades, California, this inspiring family home sits on the edge of Santa Monica Canyon and also has views over the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Here is some information from the architects: “Designed for a young couple with two children, the house addresses the formal and informal needs of the family while taking advantage of the Southern California climate and views. The orientation of the house reinforces the geometry of the site. A series of stone masses define the ground floor program while a pristine floating white box houses the bedroom wings and slides over and past the stone to gesture towards the canyon and the views“. This home is a combination of modern living areas especially designed for adults and playful spaces for kids, including an impressive outdoor play yard. We really like the open living room and the original pivot doors which let in fresh air when needed.

Outdoor Burned Wooden Furniture for a Dramatic Effect Posted: 24 Sep 2010 08:47 AM PDT This unusual burned furniture idea comes form Kaspar Hamache, a young designer from Belgium. The project is called 'Ausgebrannt', which in German means “burned out”. Made out of tree trunks, these small, but functional stools and tables were intentionally burned in order to create an uncommon aesthetic effect. Why use paint and dedicate half a day to making a chair look good, when you can burn things instead? We don’t know about you guys, but we happen to find the outcome interesting and think this type of furniture set would go nicely in a small garden or even in some public spaces. This is also the type of “do-it-yourself” design, so if you like the photos below, need a few extra seating items and have some wood in your back yard, feel free to experiment!

Amazing: Old Factory Turned into Twin Lofts in Milan Posted: 24 Sep 2010 07:42 AM PDT Twin Lofts is an incredible architecture project located in the southern part of Milan from Federico Delrosso. What was once a factory became an impressive residential complex, “a single-cell organism divided into two volumes structurally identical and internally similar but opposite”. The residence of these twin homes are the architect, Federico Delrosso and Alessandro Sartori, a renowned Italian fashion designer. Here is more information: “The ground floors of the two lofts, each comprise the mirrored halls, open kitchens, and the apertures onto the small private gardens, a long table with high seating, a bathroom and the staircase that goes up to the floors above.” “Working with the same elements I created interiors with different spirits. In the first one, in fact, the staircase is the strong element, thanks to its volumes (which incorporate the bathroom), the raw material (pickled iron) with bare welds and the risers of the stairs left hollow, so that as you go up your point of view changes and the staircase is lightened and acquires the consistency of origami. In the second loft, by contrast, I dematerialized the staircase using crystal for the treads and transforming the supporting structure into a simple white stepped line (painted iron) which developed upwards.” We think this idea of turning an old factory into a home is sustainable and daring. And as we are looking through the end results, we can’t help but appreciate this project even more. How do you find it?
