iPad Turned into a 1980’s TV: Crazy or Practical ? Posted: 14 Sep 2010 06:59 AM PDT Apparently the new iPad from Apple inspires more unusual ideas than the producers have hoped. Creative Director Jonas Damon from Frog Design Studio in New York came up with an interesting way of displaying the iPad: a retro TV whose design belongs to the 1980′s. We don’t know about you guys, but we consider that the iPad needs a support from time to time, so why not go with an old TV set ? Jonas Damon also made an interesting statement, which you will certainly find challenging: “'I’ve heard designers lament the end of industrial design for some time now: single-purpose products like calculators and alarm clocks are being replaced by smart devices, leaving nothing more than a screen in a minimal enclosure. I've got a different way of looking at it: all this advanced technology is actually enabling industrial design. A product's form used to be dictated by its mechanical function. But, as mechanics are being replaced by microchips, these constraints are disappearing. Designers have more opportunity with form now ; ergonomics and expression no longer need compromising.” Would you like this iPad TV to be produced at a large scale?-via Design Mind

Innovative Compact Office Stool and Paper Disposal Posted: 14 Sep 2010 05:17 AM PDT Here is an innovative solution for those times when you feel like cleaning your desk, but this is just too far away from your reach and so the work table remains untidy for days in a row. Created by Aissalogerot, this interesting office tool and paper waste basket combo makes cleaning your office fun. The process couldn’t be easier, as all the user has to do is extend the chair and place the paper or unwanted objects within the box beneath. Even though its hight is adjustable and it features four wheels for movement, this seating product doesn’t look all that comfortable, particularly because it lacks a back rest. The product is available in gray, chrome and black.

Fascinating Beachside Residence in Australia Posted: 14 Sep 2010 03:26 AM PDT Here is a beachside residence with a fascinating architecture from Studio101 Architects. Located in Point Lonsdale, Australia, this beautiful home was especially designed for a young family and makes the most of its coastal surroundings, offering the owners amazing living conditions. Here is more information regarding the project’s structure from the architects: “The rectilinear nature of the site and natural typography encouraged a simple yet highly efficient floor plan incorporating three pavilions linked by a continuous circulation spine. The eastern pavilion houses the sleeping and bathing zones while the living zones are orientated to the north. The primary living space contains the kitchen/dining/living and floats above a masonry podium, cranking towards true north to maximize sun exposure and frame the elevated treed outlook.” And if this home’s architecture and charming interiors are sometimes too much to take, the central yard makes for a great place to get away, relax and take some fresh air.

Versatile Folding Table also Functional When Stored Posted: 14 Sep 2010 02:24 AM PDT We couldn’t help noticing the growing need for multi-functional designs in the recent years. Since living space is getting smaller and smaller, clutter is the last thing we need. This versatile folding table was created by Endrit Hajno and comes with a double function. When not in use, it can can be easily folded and stored… on the wall. This is not something mandatory, but in case its user wishes to save space and needs a pin-up board for displaying photos or creative messages, here is a nice solution. Sure, folding and unfolding this product three times a day may prove to be a bit irritating, but when dealing with a really small home this idea could come in very handy. And you have to admit it doesn’t look bad at all! -via Hometone

Infernal Furniture from Michel Haillard: Atrociously Appealing? Posted: 13 Sep 2010 03:44 PM PDT Here is a collection of furniture that is sure to raise controversy. This infernal set from Michel Haillard is said to be inspired by the the passion for hunting and features a variety of items, from home desks to chairs, armchairs and sofas. This is a type of uncommon collection that produces mixed interpretations and stirs a large variety of opinions. Some people may enjoy these designs along with their quality and opulence, others may be shocked by the real tusks and fur which they feature. Because you should know these products were created by using most dire materials from crocodile skin to fangs belonging to wild animals. Complemented with wood, bronze and silver, these items are given the shape which you see below. Every piece is unique and the firm usually takes on a projects by receiving some dead animal’s skin from their customers and turn it into this type of furniture. We are extremely curious to find out what your opinions are on this practice and particularly this furniture collection.- via Best Bookmarks

Retro Atari Wall Decals for the Nostalgic Gamers Posted: 13 Sep 2010 11:42 AM PDT Here is a fun wall decorating idea for those of you who are nostalgic about retro gaming. Atari Wall Decals are an alternative to wallpapers. They are fun wall stickers made from vinyl which can be easily applied on any of the walls in a gamer’s crib and we also believe they would fit nicely on the ceiling. These amazing wall decals feature “scenes” from classic retro games such as Asteroids, Centipede and Pong. We think they look great and we also like the idea that the user has the freedom of mixing them up. The price of the stickers vary ($34.99 – $44.99) and you can buy them from here. What better way to sooth the spirits of passionate gamers than these unique room add-ons? -via UberReview

These modular ceramic systems featuring white, gray or black tiles look great and are very adaptable to any type of bathroom furniture with a simple color palette.
