Spectacular Beverly Hills Residence, a Showcase of Modern Living Posted: 26 Aug 2010 11:01 AM PDT We recently received some photos of the latest architecture project belonging to Steve Hermann Design. This amazing looking home is located in Beverly Hills’ hottest area called Trousdale Estates. Large floor to ceiling windows establish a strong connection with the outdoors and in the same time allows its inhabitants to enjoy the breathtaking views of the city below. An open living room with an impressive fireplace and a large, elegant sofa acts as the focal point of this residence. We particularly like the kitchen, with its minimalist design and inviting dining table. If you take a closer look at the photos, you will notice that each room comes with creative arrangements and unusual decorating items. An incredible pool accompanied by elegant seating items on the side comes to complete this home’s image of a dream crib.

Twisted Modern Galilée Office Building in Toulouse Posted: 26 Aug 2010 09:58 AM PDT We noticed an intriguing trend lately concerning office buildings. More and more multinational companies bend over backwards to create imposing, sometimes energy efficient structures with an impressive architecture. Whether this happens because they need to create a strong brand identity or want their employees to be a bit more motivated, the end results in matters of design are sometimes mind blowing. And this is where we come in. The Galilée Office Building from Studio Bellecour is located in Toulouse, France and has a distinctive, easily recognizable look. The project consists of two separate buildings connected together through a white “veil” made out of concrete. This gives the construction a light, aeronautical shape. Here is more on the structure of the building from the architects: “A central square constitutes the central space, the place of privileged pedestrian access towards both halls. The square is slightly heightened to allow for a level of half-buried parking lots organized around a central garden with natural air circulation. A large white concrete form looking like a shingle offers space for bikes within the landscape. The sun shade, a major element of the façades' composition, bring the bright comfort crucial to the offices and open-spaces of the building.”

Haven Sofa, an Ethereal Seating Design Posted: 26 Aug 2010 09:03 AM PDT Claesson Koivisto Rune‘s Haven sofa comes with a very interesting approach. Its semi-transparent nature gives this couch a unique feel while at the same time improving the whole aspect of its design micro climate. We really like this sofa’s ethereal feel and we think its overall lightness is an innovation and also the strongest feature of this item. The designers say that the texture of the material lets air flow freely, which is why this product is perfect for the outdoors. Four cozy pillows accompany the stylish sofa in order to create a more inviting seating space. A certain asymmetry was one of the objectives that the creators tried to achieve in order to make the design less formal and encourage users to drop conventions, take their shoes off and rest comfortably while enjoying the breeze.- via blueantstudio |
Roly-Poly Rocking Lamp, a Fun and Provoking Lighting Design Posted: 26 Aug 2010 06:27 AM PDT Roly-Poly comes from designer Jung Jae Yup and is one of the most playful lamp design we’ve seen. The project is also known as “Zen”, probably because it takes a strong meditative state for one not to be provoked into playing with this lamp. We really like this idea, even through for some people it may seem a little irritating, especially if the lamp is in motion and the light keeps fluctuating. However, when it reaches a state of balance, it emits the same type of light as any other common lighting emitting item. We found a funny review on the net that said this product is perfect for those interesting in boxing, even though it would take some pretty small fists to “manage” the tiny lamp. No matter what auxiliary use you may find for it, Roly Poly remains a cool and intriguing design, great for a room with a creative style.- via Yanko Design |
Impressive Architecture and Delighting Interior Design in Colorado Posted: 26 Aug 2010 03:01 AM PDT The Syncline Residence was designed by Arch11 and is located near Boulder, Colorado. Its architecture is diverse and developed in consonance with the building site’s many constraints and the land use limitations. The architects had to deal with height restrictions, solar access restraints and with an uneven terrain. The large windows create a harmonious connection to the landscape. Here is some relevant information concerning this aspect from the designers: “As the entry opens to the living spaces the apertures transform in scale to reveal the expansive landscape in its entirety. At the southwest corner thirty feet of glass retracts into the walls, dissolving the boundary between the domestic and the wild; the living spaces are then bounded only by the uplifted cliffs beyond. Reciprocally, the native meadow to the west folds onto the garage roof providing easy outdoor access for visiting guests in the house's guest suite.” Syncline Residence was built for a couple of professional rock climbers who wanted "a place where town life can be left behind."
