Move-It DIY Portable Trolley That Makes Shopping Easier Posted: 11 Aug 2010 09:23 AM PDT I have to admit that when I’ve saw this idea developed by David Graham as part of an Industrial Design Engineering project I’ve totally fall in love. This simple idea can help you get a heavy box across town without using a delivery truck, car or taxi. This idea is called Move-it and it's a cleverly designed kit, made of self-adhesive cardboard parts that stick on your box and transform it into a lightweight trolley. And would you believe it's entirely made of cardboard – including the wheels, axle and chassis? The Move-it is still in prototype form but the concept is very smart. It’s a kit that contains a set of wheels and two different types of handles. They can be applied in various ways, allowing the user to move any size and shape of box that is 20Kg (44lbs) or less. Apparently, a store attendant could attach the handle and wheels in less than a minute. It can be used on wet pavements and is designed to be hardy enough for a trip across town on foot or by public transport. Every component of the kit is made of cardboard – so once you’ve got your package home all the kit’s pieces can be removed and recycled or reused on another box. Even the glue is harmless – it's made of a special repulpable contact adhesive which will easily disperse in water. Now to see how all these pieces come together check the video attached below, and tell us if you think that this idea should be implemented at a larger scale. – Via – James Dayson Award |

IKEA Assembly Service Ads by Grabarz & Partner Posted: 11 Aug 2010 07:21 AM PDT IKEA furniture is well known for its modern, innovative furniture design. Is that true of their advertising as well? The IKEA Assembly Service ads bring to light a much-needed and underused support system. Cleverly depicting the plea for help from customers, the IKEA Assembly Service campaign is the brainchild of German advertising agency Grabarz & Partner. What do you think about these funny ads ? Are they true or not ? – Via |
Family House With A Very Warm Feel In California Posted: 11 Aug 2010 04:38 AM PDT Here is a residence that inspires a homey and very friendly feel. We imagine this is the sort of place that gives the definition of “neighborly attraction”. With a highly interesting architecture, the Korman Residence by Cory Buckner Architects is located in Brentwood, California. This house was built for a family with two daughters and a bulldog which is also considered an important household member. The brief of the project was to create a second level for an existing building and also to do an entire home remodeling. So the architects completely turned around the overall look of the former project which was partially demolished. They created a second story with a master suite, an office and a painting studio and reconfigured the design of the whole construction. What do you think of the final results? |
5 Ways Your Home Can Make You Sick Posted: 11 Aug 2010 02:42 AM PDT Every time your family inhabits your home, there is a great probability that your home is the source of their illnesses. What seems like occasional sneezing and watery eyes may stem from bedding and carpeting. Frequent headaches and a dizzy feeling could be everyday household chemicals or fumes disturbing your body. Many solutions are simple and can be fixed in the products you buy, and regular maintenance in your home. Here are 5 ways you can help you and your family not get sick from your home. Your home should feel like a piece of paradise! 1.) Use household cleaners that have natural ingredients: Multi-surface cleaners, sprays and everyday household cleaners could have VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) in them. These compounds evaporate into the air, and later are inhaled. Many cleaners such as bleach and cleansers have noxious fumes that are irritants and can make you sick. Instead, opt for cleaners that use natural products such as vinegar, baking soda, water, and hydrogen peroxide. 2.) Ventilate your home regularly: Your home should have fresh air pass through it on a regular basis. Even in the hot summer, and cold winter when we don't want to open windows, fresh air is important for your family's health. When using cleaning products, unpacking new furniture, or moving into a new home, "off gassing" occurs and can be harmful if inhaled for long periods of time. Consider storing furniture in a basement, or garage if possible before bringing into the main home. While cleaning, open windows and take frequent breaks to go inhale fresh air. 3.) Wash household bedding and clean carpets regularly. Dust mites and bed bacteria are typical of everyone's beds. To keep down the spread, use removable pillow cases and wash regularly. Similarly, with your carpet have it professionally cleaned on a regular basis. Outside dirt, pet dander, dust, and pollen are common indoor allergens that settle in furniture and carpets. Use a HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner to keep air cleaner while vacuuming. 4.) Change the air conditioning filter regularly. Airborne particulates are common in households. To keep them at low levels and to keep your family from sneezing, replace the A/C filters directed by your unit. If your unit is aging, consider having a certified air conditioning and heating specialist service your unit. They will explain how to maintain its life for years to come, and tell you the correct size of replacement filters to use. 5.) In children's rooms wash toys, stuffed animals and surfaces. As parents, we always want the daycare provider and facility to be spotless and clean. Although, when your child comes home, do you use the same practices in their room? Stuffed animals are a breeding ground for germs, allergens, and everyday dirt. Toss them in the washer machine when you do the weekly laundry. Consider using cleaning wipes for quick tidying, and wipe down toys, and put in the dish washer if they can fit! Consider these tips the next time you purchase household cleaners and perform regular scheduled maintenance on your home. You may save you family from suffering through 'seasonal' allergies, and help save the environment too. What do you do in your household to keep everyone healthy? Are there other's that I didn't mention? Leave us comments, and let us know. |
