| Original Restaurant and Wine Bar in Beirut Posted: 01 Jul 2010 08:03 AM PDT We all have our special places around town in which we like to dine, have a drink and talk with friends. This wine bar/restaurant design comes from a Lebanese company called PSLAB and we think it has the originality and atmosphere which can turn a common wine bar into a favorite place for going out. Located n Beirut, Lebanon, this Burgundy bar and restaurant feature some pretty interesting design elements: an arched ceiling with wooden beams, a beautiful set of wooden chairs and tables and an unusual lighting system. Suspended from the arches, the clusters of light gathering odd conical tubes make for an intriguing atmosphere. What do you say? Would you go dining in such a bar/restaurant? And do you find this combination appealing?

| “Secret Stash” Hides Desk Objects in Places No One Would Think of Posted: 01 Jul 2010 05:43 AM PDT “Secret Stash” is one of the coolest ideas we’ve seen lately in this category. Creative and fun, this system comes from designer YiTing Cheng and is able to hide things like keys, money, documents and even valuable messages in places no one would ever think about searching. The designer explains how this is possible: “This project is about concealing valuables, secrets, bad habits and personal information in our workplaces. Here, hidden spaces/messages were created within 8 general objects such as wood boards, lamps and disposable coffee cups… How? Utilize stereotypes and visual camouflage. We make judgments based mainly on our experiences and what we see. This dependency on visual information can create large blind spots. Thus, usual stereotypes of how we perceive solid, transparency and lighting are employed in this project to play with notions of 'solid and void', and 'true and false”. The video below is truly captivating, so we invite you to take a quick look and be amazed.-via HomeTone

| Colorful Urban Eco Structure from Michael Johansson Posted: 01 Jul 2010 03:31 AM PDT Swedish artist Michael Johansson created an unusual urban sculpture which is exhibited at the Umedalan Skulptur 2010 event. The giant project includes life-sized objects such as a truck, a trailer, a Volvo, shipping containers and even trash cans stuck together in order to create a 3D wall. The structure is called “Self Contained” and is said to be a statement regarding the industrialization of Sweden. The mixture of colors and textures create an interesting visual effect. Still, we think the idea of putting together such large items is a little shocking- not necessarily in a negative way. As high as a three-level building, we imagine this is quite an odd and fascinating thing to observe up-close. We are really interested in your opinions on this project.- via Inhabitat

| Furnibloom, Integrate Nature into Your Lifestyle Posted: 01 Jul 2010 01:35 AM PDT Wouldn’t it be nice to have a home that reminded you of spring at every step? Well here is an idea for step one: Furnibloom was created by landscape architect Dagný Bjarnadóttir and is actually a set of Plexiglas furniture. The uncommon aspect of this idea is the fact that Furnibloom houses a variety of plants. This is possible by creating a good micro climate for the vegetation to grow inside day-to-day furniture, such as chairs or tables. A double functionality is ensured. First off, one could actually plant vegetables within such unusual furniture (we read this is possible). Its aesthetic feature is obvious: these tables and chairs are absolutely lovely and they have the means to cheer up any interior or entertainment outdoor space.- via Cool Hunting

| Cool Flexible Power Strip, Aesthetics and Functionality Posted: 30 Jun 2010 11:54 PM PDT To be honest, I was wondering when something like this would be released on the market. From Quirky, this flexible power strip may not be the first of its kind, but it sure looks good enough for the screens. Its simple yet very flexible design could make life easier for those who always stumble on the classical straight-shaped strips. By a simple move, this design can become circular and be wrapped around furniture legs. But its most important characteristic is that items can easily fit in and you don’t have to worry about what device you should charge first. “Pivot Power” has a great flower shape, so it is not only practical, but also kind of cute. The unusual power strip can be purchased online here. Check out the photos and the video, for a better understanding of how this works.

| How to Add Modern Décor Touches to Your Home Posted: 30 Jun 2010 01:37 PM PDT Modern interior décor can be achieved with sleek, strong lines, and minimalism. Through the use of materials, color, and rich interiors, modern decor is as stylish as you want to make it. The focus in modern decor is in the styling and atmosphere of the spaces. Here are some ways that you can achieve contemporary style in your home. COUCH/CHAIRS: In modern decor, furniture has strong linear form, and absence of ornamentation. Modern interiors have only the essential pieces of furniture. When choosing couches and chairs, modern styling may include the illusion of "floating” horizontal planes. Bulky, furniture is replaced with sleek and refined materials. The use of leather, micro-fiber, tweed, and tightly woven fabrics makes furniture sophisticated and durable. Consider your space to furnish, and include only enough pieces to fit the function of the space. Modern decor’s appeal is the feeling of airiness, space and light.
