| Amazing Idea: Vacant Shops Turned into Modern Accommodation Posted: 24 Jun 2010 09:31 AM PDT Town@HouseStreet is the name of a new and really interesting concept: turning a vacant and useless shop space into modern accommodation. This way the building regains its utility and the former shop owners become something similar to hoteliers. Italian architect Simone Micheli was asked during Milan design week to redesign four such spaces and you can see the results in the pictures below. These four suites located in a commercial center in Milan are completely automatized. Even though this particular project is highly glamorous and probably not for everyone to afford, we salute the idea of redesigning vacant shop spaces and expect more similar makeovers in the future. Here is more from the designer: “My interior architecture project should transmit, uniqueness, strong identity, incredible interconnection with the urban system, leaving out all known stereotypes. Therefore I have created extremely evocative places, practical, intriguing, capable to become veritable manifests, a new way of thinking the world of hospitality, a new way to conceive the relation between receptivity dimension and the city. In this project the metropolitan connective external spaces considered as hotel corridors, penetrate into the buildings confined spaces transforming the perception.”-via Karmatrendz

| Beautiful and Stylish Ring of Fire Chandelier Posted: 24 Jun 2010 07:39 AM PDT This stylish chandelier comes from Piet Houtenbos and is a mix of contemporary design with a more classical view. “The Halo” is actually a ceramic ring that features six flames. And we mean real fire, the kind that does not have anything to do with the electrical energy bill. This unusual chandelier can function by adding candle oil and it can light up the room 20 hours before needing another round. This is a really interesting design idea, that can completely turn around the way a room feels. It is also said to be highly economical, especially if the product is used in more than one rooms. This may not be the most practical thing, but here’s a thought: one could have both systems installed (electrical and candle light) and switch between them when in need for an atmosphere change.- via Cool Hunting

| VILLA-K, a Contemporary Hilltop Residence in Japan Posted: 24 Jun 2010 03:24 AM PDT Located in a breathtaking natural environment, Villa K is a contemporary hilltop residence from Mutsue Hayakusa Cell Space Architects located in Nagano, Japan. This is the type of home built while taking into consideration the connection between indoors and exterior. Large windows offer unobstructed views of the near by forest. Villa K has no less than four roofs, situated at different levels, which is a very interesting architecture approach. Unexpected angles can characterize the overall appearance of this contemporary residence. The interiors are spacious and airy, with stylish and modern furniture. Elegant indoor stairs connect the levels of the home, creating a fun and unusual living space. Wood is present, complementing the general white color palette of the home.
