Tea Cup Stools, Original and Playful

Posted: 19 May 2010 06:52 AM PDT

We found this creative stool idea by Holly Palmer, a contemporary furniture designer who has a crush on vivid colors. Since this blog is about fresh approaches, her works didn’t go unnoticed. For today we chose to share with you this playful set of tea cup stools, which ranks high in chromatic but also originality. The set features small plastic chairs in six different colors, bound to create a special universe for children, filled up with life and personality. The storing idea is also surprising. Once the chairs are no longer needed, they can be hung on a cool device, especially created for giant cups. The set costs $298.00 and can be purchased online here.

Liberty Sideboard, a Mix of Art and Functionality

Posted: 19 May 2010 05:49 AM PDT

They say a classy home is where you will find art. But what you don’t hear every day is that art can be found in a variety of forms and in the end, it is only a matter of subjective perception.. In this particular case we are dealing with a sophisticated sideboard that in our opinion mixes beauty with functionality. From Giusti Portos, “Liberty” captures art in its traditional sense- notice the impressive printing- but also in a more contemporary way. After all, design itself is considered to be a major form of expression. Serious in shape and color, but playful if you consider the decorative fringes, this item would look interesting in a simple and elegant environment. If you can think of another type of interior, let us know.

Think Sustainable: Furniture Made From Recycled Milk Jugs

Posted: 19 May 2010 05:25 AM PDT

Lately major mentality transformations occurred in the field of sustainability. It seems that everyone wants to recycle, but some consider the process either too futuristic or too unhandy. Here’s an idea that should help those who don’t believe that a change is possible. Loll Designs is a company in USA whose main field of work is producing outdoor products made from recycled materials. Not only that, but the firm also struggles to make furniture which requires no maintenance and that can be recycled again. In the photos below you have a presentation of their new collection, one that includes chairs, planters, tables and a bird house. The remarkable thing is that these items were all created out of 100% recycled materials- milk jugs, to be exact. Did we get your attention?-via Inner Insight

Urban Furniture Gone Practical : “Pop-Up”

Posted: 18 May 2010 03:20 PM PDT

In an urban space that gets more and more crowded with each passing day, there is a dire need for practical solutions. What do you think of this one? “Pop-Up” is a project from Dutch designers Carmela Bogman and Rogier Martens meant to turn a crowded public area into a “breathable” space. As you probably realized, there is a system that triggers the three retractable “benches” out of the pavement when people want to have a seat. When the impromptu seating device is no longer a necessity, it can be literally brought down and this will make that particular part of the sidewalk available for circulation again. This idea was already put to practice in Utrecht, a city in the Netherlands. So simple and clever!- via Designboom
