Swiss studio Sofia Designers combined two daily used objects into a simple design duo – a round mirror and a hanger – and named it the Orion Mirror. Showcasing that special charm displayed by versatile objects, this simple, round, multifunctional object minimizes complexity in favor of simplicity. Imagine catching your reflection in the 26 cm high mirror, leaving your coat to hang on the fluidly designed peg and continuing on with your daily activities. When you head out, you see the mirror again – it just seems worth it to see a beautifully designed object every time you interact with your coat. Not only clothes, but also keys and towels, shopping bags or hats can become part of the display. Made out of durable anodized aluminum and showcasing a minimalist but hard to ignore design, the Orion Mirror shows its creators’ industrial design influence and how Stéphane Badet and Laurent De Bernardini managed to update their knowledge to shape a contemporary home accessory.

Art festival TRACK: a contemporary city conversation brought together artists and their creative works in the city of Ghent, Belgium. Benjamin Verdonck (writer, visual artist and theater director) envisioned an interesting looking tree house entitled vogelenzangpark 17bis, a small replica or a symbolic addition to a building already located in the park, a typical piece of architecture from the fifties. The organizers of the event explain: “In the context of TRACK Verdonck continues his research into the strength and function of theatricality in the public space. He appears in Vogelenzang Park, a hidden piece of Ghent on the Blaisantvest, with some social housing and a clubhouse where local senior citizens come together to play cards or shuffleboard. The replica is too small to be accessed as a tree house, but does fill the spectator with a desire to withdraw to a place where he or she feels free and can reflect.” What hidden meanings can you detach from this original art installation?

We received some photos of an apartment in Belgrade, Serbia. designed by one of our readers, Dragana Lazovic and we are curious to see your reactions. As our reader explained, when she bought it, it was completely in ruins and the conversion process lasted for two months. The objective was to create a bright space, inspired by the Scandinavian style. Most of the decorating items in the photos are original, handmade by the artist: “The furniture, except beds and chairs, was not bought in the shop. A joinery workshop made it according to my drafts. I sewed all of the pillowcases on my own. As for the ragged blue and yellow ones, i knitted those. I sewed the curtains as well. Frames are old, bought on an auction site, and I painted them”. Four Cornered Villa by Avanto Architects 1 Unusually Minimalist Four Cornered Villa For An Ascetic Lifestyle

78 square meters are enough for this residential collection of spaces to offer its inhabitants everything they need. Located in Virrat, Finland, the Four-Cornered Villa faces north and east, gathering views of tall, slim surrounding trees through each glazed wall. This constructs a sequence of spaces splendidly oriented towards framed views, making it appear like a dramatic play of dark and white, light and shadow. Avanto Architects worked on this successful project for two years, and clients were more than happy with their new crib. With a flat roof hinting towards a one of modern architecture’s main features, the dark house is completely hidden from view when seen from the nearby Vaskivesi Lake. Sustainable features provide an eco view on the whole structure – electricity is provided by sunlight, a vegetable and herb garden feeds the inhabitants, the whole structure is insulated and nature surrounds the house – the only disadvantage is the lack of running water, exposing the client’s wish to live an ascetic lifestyle away from stressful city life.
