| Single-Family Residence Can Turn Into Multi-Generation Home Posted: 20 Sep 2011 05:58 AM PDT
The Oberen Berg House by Alexander Brenner has caught our attention due to its modern, bold and imposing architecture. Appearing like a collection of white volumes displayed on the northeast side, the residence is made out of a cluster of spaces connected to each other through openings in the geometric protective walls. The 4,876 square meter residence can be easily transformed into a multi-generation residence. Its current architecture permits the owners to make quick adjustments to the existing floor plan in order to divide the living spaces into multiple units. Glass walls adorned with modern details succumb to the flooding of light, making the double height entrance hall gather views of the surrounding hillside. The pool was placed in the front side to take advantage of the extensive views over the surroundings of Stuttgart, Germany, where the house is located. What do you like most about this house: the glazed walls, pool with views, dark floors?

| A Caravan That Can Navigate Shallow Waters: The Sealander [Video] Posted: 20 Sep 2011 04:12 AM PDT
In case you ever wanted to go camping on water, here is a practical idea. The Sealander, designed by German industrial designer Daniel Straub, is a recreational trailer with amphibious features. Which means it can take you places on land, but also on water. Seen on NOTCOT, the unusual vehicle was built using glass-fiber enhanced materials and a waterproof transportation system, which allows it to literally float on the water. It is also equipped with an external motor, so no rowing is needed. By the time this ingenious design gets on the market, you will be able to camp both on water and dry land. We particularly like the fact that the roof can come off, allowing the users to enjoy the sky at night. The Sealander will be available in 2012 and it is estimated to cost around 12.000€. Have a look at the presentation video below to see this lovely amphibious caravan in action.

| Creative Hand-Carved Car Tyres by Studio Wim Delvoye Posted: 20 Sep 2011 03:00 AM PDT
We came across an interesting use of creativity: hand-carved car tyres. The Belgian artist who created these interesting effects on car tyres – Studio Wim Delvoye – has experience with many faces of art – from laser cut stainless steel to photos printed on aluminum. There was an interesting reaction when we first saw these car tyres – can you imagine how much work and patience it took to create these carefully designed, intricate patterns? The collection named “Pneu” comes to show that even the most ignored objects can become masterpieces in the hands of a talented artist. Found on Beautiful Life, the used car tyres open a world of possibilities for those who appreciate Eco-friendly artistic designs. Wim Delvoye is not the first artist to experiment with used car tyres, but he is surely a very patient, talented and focused artist.

| Contemporary Home in Chile Built Around Native Trees: Fray Leon House Posted: 20 Sep 2011 12:12 AM PDT
57Studio have designed the impressive Fray Leon House, located on the east side of Santiago, Chile. The residence was built around native trees an in relationship with them. According to the architects, “the interior spaces are organized around a native tree (Cryptocaria alba) that accompanies the access from the south. Through the hall, the presence of an enormous avocado tree (Persea americana) is framed towards the north, and a private wing towards the east is delimited by an old macrocarpa cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) and some crape myrtles. Over the central wing, a second private level extends in all of its length, leaving on one end a terrace at the height of the tree's crowns. On the west wing, the public spaces open towards the northern garden through a porch, and the service areas direct their view towards an ashleaf maple (Acer negundo). The wing of services extends towards the south by means of a roof with an opening that surrounds a native Crinodendron patagua that separates the closed garage from the rest of the house.” We do not know if the freshness of the design was dictated by the lush vegetation, but we do believe this home could turn out to be a diverse source of inspiration.

| Interesting Minimalist Architecture in a Rural Landscape: Little Black Dress Posted: 19 Sep 2011 11:06 AM PDT
Designed by X Architekten, the Little Black Dress adornes the rural hillside landscape with a modern, black architecture. The 1,000 square meters property located in Gunskirchen, Austria, allows the minimalist residence to stand out among its neighbors. Reinforced concrete floors protect the building from flooding due to poor soil conditions. Gathered under a classic gable roof, the living spaces on the first floor feature the kitchen, living and dining spaces, while the second floor displays a second living room and the bedroom. The lower level is characterized by white spruce walls with beautiful beams across the ceilings. The second floor adds dynamism to the architecture with its inclined roof shape. A white cladded asymmetric void that shapes a passageway through the house acts as a courtyard, contrasting with the rest of the dark architecture. In your opinion, is this residence a home to be proud of?

| Pharmaceutical Factory In Harbin Said To Be The Chinese Version of Versailles Posted: 19 Sep 2011 08:16 AM PDT
Now we all knew the pharmaceutical business is doing good, but nevertheless, did not see this coming. What you see in the photos below are the interiors of an office building located in Harbin, northeast of China and belonging to Harbin Pharmaceutical Group. According to Daily Mail, the building consists of three levels of offices and three more floors that are dedicated to a print museum belonging to the state-owned pharmaceutical firm. The interior decorations feature gold-tinted walls and chandeliers, reminding one of the lavish Palace of Versailles built by Louis the Xiv-th. It is no wonder that the publication of these photos in China caused outrage among the citizens that have homes next to the building and who believe the money would have been spent better in solving the factory’s sewage problems. We will let you be the judge of the facts presented in this article, as well as the aesthetic reviewer of the interiors below.
