| Delightful Apartment Displaying an Elegant White Color Scheme Posted: 28 Jun 2011 06:29 AM PDT
For today we would like to showcase this unique duplex apartment that impresses due to a simple, but charming white color scheme. Stylishly decorated with pale walls, white painted wooden floors and rustic brick walls, this apartment has a total living surface of 94 square meters and consists of 3 rooms plus kitchen, according to Alvhem. Seven generous windows to the south allow the sun’s rays to find their way into the two-level crib. The ground floor consists of a spacious hall, a small bedroom and a tiled bathroom with Jacuzzi and shower. Connected to the hall, there is a bright and airy living room that is currently used as a combined TV room and study. The walls are painted white to enhance the room’s open feel. Two large windows, with niches deep enough to sit in, invite light in the room. The ceiling height is approximately 2.30 meters. A spiral staircase of black wrought iron leads up to the next floor. When you pass the stairs to the upper level you can reach this apartment’s most interesting spaces. A living area , a dining room and a large bedroom complete the design of this welcoming duplex.

| Impressive Stone Residence with an Original Architecture in The Carribeans Posted: 28 Jun 2011 05:08 AM PDT
This intriguing looking stone residence is located on the Caribbean island of St. Barthelemy and was designed by Barnes Coy Architects. According to the architects, the site is situated on a high peninsula, with 270 degree views of the surrounding landscape: “The long axis of the house is perpendicular to the axis of the peninsula, aligning it with sunrise and sunset. The main space is open from North to South, with bedrooms behind a wall that angles away toward the South-East, making the space wider at the West end of the house. The effect is akin to a lens opening up to the view across a bay and other islands beyond. Each bedroom opens to a private walled terrace with an outdoor shower beneath a pergola. The West and South facades are floor-to-ceiling glass panels. The glass panels part at the corner and slide into the exterior walls, opening the house completely and allowing the Pennsylvania Limestone wall to extend beyond without interruption. This allows for a seamless connection between the main living space and the exterior spaces, engaging the entire site as an extension of the house“. How do you appreciate the overall design of this project?

| Clever and Functional Light Switch Covers [Video] Posted: 28 Jun 2011 12:06 AM PDT
Tiered of misplacing keys, umbrellas and mail? We received an interesting project that can help with this issue. Justin Porcano created Wallplates, a functional system that can be adapted to standard light switches. According to the designer, “Hook and Envelope are the first of these functional Wallplates, but eventually new product functions will be created as the product line expands. Hook and Envelope are simply light switch cover plates that add practical function to your space. The Wallplates concept was born out of a need to store the objects that typically come and go with us; such as: keys, scarves, phones, mail, umbrellas, coats, etc. I wanted to provide a consistent, convenient location for these objects to live.” The product utilizes the existent standard holes in the switch and adds a creative and practical feature that helps one be organized. Have a look at the video below for the whole story!

| Dining Table for Ten, Shaped Like the Manhattan Bridge Posted: 27 Jun 2011 09:17 AM PDT
The Mannhattan Bridge is an iconic landmark crossing the East River in New York City. For today we would like to present an interesting design based on an idea that we enjoyed and believe so will you. Here is the press release we were sent: “Brooklyn-based furniture designer Richard Velloso drew inspiration from the iconic Manhattan Bridge when he created this dining table, made from a 6 foot long piece of drift wood that he found on the beach beneath the bridge and hot-rolled steel. He named the piece “An Ode to the Manhattan Bridge” and it measures seven-plus feet long and seats eight (or ten, if they know each other well). At first glance, one might think that the table’s surface is made of wood but slide a hand across its smooth, cool surface it becomes clear that it’s metal.” The table was built in Velloso's workspace named Olga Guanabara (after his beloved dog, Olga, and a beautiful bay in Brazil). Find it appealing ?
