A Game of Opposites and Similarities: Latest Design Collection by Roche Bobois Posted: 30 May 2011 05:49 AM PDT We recently received a press release from Roche Bobois, international leader in top end furniture design and distribution. The presented their latest exclusive collections at the Milan furniture Fair. Here is the information they sent us together with a few photos showcasing their designs: “The collections represent the eclecticism and breadth of range of the brand ; rigorous structure sits happily alongside more free flowing forms, acid brights alongside pitch black. A game of opposites and similarities, organic rounded shapes for an ultra chic urban environment : the Roche Bobois universe thrives on the unexpected, on the surprises that lift the spirits and bring a sense of joy to the quotidian. Bold yet timeless offerings that, at the heart of the design event of the year, continue a 50-year old tradition of creativity and quality.
The AVA chair is a project to result from the first Roche Bobois 'Design Awards', a competition launched in China in 2009 and held in a different country every two years. Under the theme of 'Nature, the universal link between east and west', 28 year-old design independent Song Wen Zhong, a graduate of Beijing Academy of Arts, sought inspiration for his Ava chair in the myths and stories of Chinese legend. With its long sensuous tapering limbs, Ava resembles a dragon-like avatar transformed into a chair: a fine yet strong specimen such as a giant ant. Representing the first plastic injection-created design from Roche Bobois, Ava marries high-tech purity with organic form. Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

Lovely Design Details within a Charming Australian Family Home Posted: 30 May 2011 01:50 AM PDT Palm Beach Residence is an intriguing remodel of a family home achieved by Brooke Aitken Design and located in Australia. According to the architects, “this older style house directly located on Sydney's famous Palm Beach required an significant internal facelift. The house is used as a holiday home for up to 14 people and it was important to provide a relaxed beachy aesthetic that could cater for many people“. When we asked Brooke for some photos of this delightful crib, we were pleasantly surprised to receive some pretty impressive details of the project. We were charmed by the small open plan living room enriched with interesting wooden artifacts and by the simple color palette. Clever shelving systems, an immaculate all-equipped kitchen, a vintage coffee table and a cozy lounge area make for a highly welcoming atmosphere. We believe you will find the details in the images below both intriguing and inspiring. Enjoy!

Wake Up or Start Your Day Sobbing: The Money Shredding Alarm Clock Posted: 29 May 2011 11:55 PM PDT Having problems when it comes to waking up in the morning? It is our great wicked pleasure to present this creative alarm clock that will surely solve whatever “oversleeping issues” you may have. The design of the money shredding alarm clock is definitely for the strong-hearted, for the rich of for the desperate. Funny and clever, this device will make sure you get to work on time, even if it means compromising the earnings you are about to make that day. If for some money is not a problem, the machine can also shred other important papers, such as holiday airplane tickets, homeworks, “to do” lists and so on. But keep an eye out: according to Mashable, willfully destroying U.S. currency is considered a federal crime and is punishable by law: “Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association [...] shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both." Witty though! So… what would you shred for the sake of waking up in the morning?
