| Astonishing Concrete and Glass Residence with Stunning Views of the Ocean Posted: 19 Jan 2011 07:01 AM PST Constructed as a unique architectural masterpiece, standing tall and proud high on a cliff in La Jolla, California, the Razor Residence was proudly designed by architect Wallace E. Cunningham, one of Architectural Digest’s Top 100 Designers. Lucky from the start to be able to enjoy such a panorama of the Pacific Ocean on a 11,000 square foot area, the magnificent residence features 4 bedrooms, 6 baths and an enormous two level guest house. As if the structure and features were not luxurious enough, the home has private access to Black`s Beach. The residence is for sale at Hurwitz James Co. for the price of $32,000,000. here are a few words from Hurwitz James: “Set behind gates, and constructed from white polished concrete and floor-to-ceiling glass, this magnum opus suspends the boundaries of ordinary living and commands amazing uninterrupted views of the ocean, open sky and natural landscape.” Ready for more amazing design ideas? | Unusual and Creative Paris Apartment With Architectural Blocks on the Ceiling Posted: 19 Jan 2011 05:45 AM PST French architects Pascal Grasso took the idea of decorating an interior to a new level with this next contemporary apartment in Paris. Using architectural blocks to create a ceiling landscape on a monochrome background, the designer managed to gracefully hide the necessary modern features like the air-conditioning, the sound system, lighting and ventilation behind plaster boxes mounted on the ceiling. The rectangular volumes extend down the walls and into the overall aspect of the interior, forming furniture and storage spaces. With a total area of 280 m² and a large terrace, the apartment had to be carefully designed so that the space would be functional and modern. A connection between the inside space and the terrace had to be created and this is how the designer did that: “A large volume, opened directly on the terrace, is created. It will become the main space of the floor, the reception room. The bedrooms are rearranged on the first level. Device, consisting in visual accumulation of volumes, creates rhythm in the new space. They invade the floor, walls and ceiling. The ceiling is the strong element structuring the room.”

| Sustainable Heating Using Body Heat from Stockholm Central Station Posted: 19 Jan 2011 03:03 AM PST Swedish real estate company Jernhusen announced they found a way to harness the energy created by the 250,000 daily passersby in Stockholm Central Station. By using the heat that the moving bodies generate, the company accomplished a futuristic project: they managed to heat an office building across the street, decreasing the building’s energy bill by 25 %, a large sum of money for a large building. Jernhusen first came up with the idea that could be a step forward in reusable energy three years ago. The concept behind this breakthrough is that Central Station's ventilation system converts body heat into hot water that heats up the building across the street. Sweden has a deadly combination of cold weather and high gas prices which eventually led to a creative and sustainable solution. “This is old technology being used in a new way. The only difference here is that we’ve shifted energy between two different buildings”, says one of the creators of the system, Klas Johnasson. This project was made possible because a large development real estate firm like Jernhusen owns the land on which Stockholm Central Station and the office building are located, as well as the space in between: “But this doesn’t mean that it cannot be done otherwise. It just means that real estate owners have to collaborate with each other”, says Klas Johnasson. This great project will surely be passed on from mind to mind until it reaches new heights in helping create a sustainable planet. -Via Inhabitat

| Stunning Residence Perfectly Integrated in the Surroundings Posted: 19 Jan 2011 01:54 AM PST Inspiring and bright, this next WrightFeldhusen residential project that adds contemporary glamour to the neighborhood.. The designers, Tim Wright and Rachel Feldhusen have been working together since 1996, long enough to develop a unique rhythm and to be able to transform a sketch into a family dwelling. Working with a strong desire to overcome any problems that might arise, the WrightFeldhusen company creates optimistic structures that respond to their environments. They have a “contemporary approach which explores the manipulation of space, form, materials and light and a desire to reflect the beauty and uniqueness of a site and its history“. Located in Mount Pleasant, the residence you are about to see has a strong and intriguing architecture and it was built in a natural landscape that accentuates its beauty. The pool is to die for and both the exterior cladding and interior details have a vintage look that breaks the overall modernity of the structure.

| Modern Residence Featuring an Uncommon Tent-like Structure in Japan Posted: 18 Jan 2011 09:50 AM PST This residence may be characterized by some as “odd”. Located in Kodaira, Tokyo, Japan and developed by Suppose Design Office, this home was designed for a family of four members and comes with quite an interesting exterior. Here is the official description of the project from the architects: Because of the conditions, our theme was to create a house to open to the outside yet it could keep a private space. To create the courtyard as a semi private zone, a tent structure was used for a partition to separate the two spaces. The tent is covering the garden as if it was a roof, a wall and also a fence. The structure creates the outside environment as a part of interior of the house. Moreover, the sliding doors at the living room can be totally open to the front garden to engage the comfortable green space to the private rooms. Do you find this uncommon method of creating an indoor/outdoor connection appealing? (Photos: © Toshiyuki Yano)- via Arch Daily
