9-to-5 Clock or How to Treasure Every Second of Your Free Time Posted: 11 Nov 2010 05:57 AM PST Here is a creative wall clock from Lamplabs, a new design company in USA. The 9-to-5 clock has a highly original appearance, as it seems to only “work” during these this period. In reality, the design can tell time just like any other clock. What distinguishes it from the more common items of its kind is the fact that it emphasizes on a day period that is special to all those who have a tight working schedule. Here is more information from the official press release. “Most of us enjoy about 8 hours a day when we aren't at work or asleep. Our time is precious, but it's counterweighted by life's necessities. This clock pokes fun at that reality while serving as a reminder to take advantage of life's fleeting moments.” The clock is available in white ($85) (as displayed). Also available at the $110 level with the choice of a custom clock face in Cherry, Bamboo or Maple.

Modern Urban Retreat with a Strong Indoor-Outdoor Connection: CASA RoHa Posted: 11 Nov 2010 04:47 AM PST We received some photos of Casa RoHa, a contemporary residence designed by M+N Arquitectos, The home has a total surface of 406 square meters and is located in Puebla, Mexico. Here is the description the architects sent us: “The concept comes from the client's will of living in a house as an "urban retreat". The result is a big blind box floating over the street. That makes the house sprawls its sensations and views to the interiors through gardens and patios. The project is designed as a row of spaces connected or beaded by corridors. The public zone, located at the ground floor is configured from an open space concept that faces up to the garden. On this stage the use of each space is given by the change of heights as well as light intensity. The result is the precision in its use and living experience of each space with a visual flow. In the upper floor, the private zone is configured by independent concrete volumes that create a double height both in the living room and at the patio, between dining room and kitchen. Geometry, natural light and the relation between interior and exterior are the basic axes of this architecture which is outstanding for its charge of materiality. This goal is achieved from materials worked with great expressiveness, by changing flooring materials or by identifying structural elements in walls. The example is the change of white marvel in the ground floor to dark wood in the first floor. The white and light gray wall accentuates the importance of human scale.”

4 Ways the Color Greige Will Make you Rethink Neutrals Posted: 11 Nov 2010 03:18 AM PST For the longest time white, black, brown and grey (gray) were considered the neutrals to stick with. Whether it was fashion, home décor or paint colors, these neutrals were tried and true staples of the design world. Over the last few years a new neutral was born – Greige, a mixing of grey and beige tones that deliver a gorgeous neutral hue. Since it is a neutral it can be paired with pops of saturated colors or complimented with varying metallic and shades of grey. See how greige will make you rethink neutrals in your home décor and furnishings. 1.) Paint and wall finishes: Whether you are deciding to wall paper your walls or to paint them, greige is the perfect color to tie the room together. The warmness of grey and the coolness of beige makes greige ideal for a field color, as opposed to only an accent to your interior walls. For a subtle tone on tone variation, use varying levels of saturated greige on adjacent walls and décor. For more texture add joint compound in a random pattern on your wall, let dry overnight, and paint the next day. Are you feeling more daring? Pop colors of yellow, turquoise, or even hot pink into your décor to add visual interest! 2.) Greige, black and white: When these three colors are paired with ample light, they are gorgeous! For more dramatic interiors use varying shades of black, slate and heather grey with greige. The whitest of white bed linen, paired with black accent pillows, and chrome or metallic décor accents is perfect for a modern, minimalist vibe. If drama isn't for you try to use the opposite side of the neutral spectrum. Vary light shades of greige, and white to give a romantic and delicate feel to your space. Neutrals are the most versatile of the entire color spectrum! 3.) Greige in textiles: Looking to tie your space together from the fabrics on the couch to the metallic woven thread drapery in your living room? Visit a fabric store with pictures in hand that you've taken from magazines and internet sites. Start in the beige family of fabrics and work your way through to the grays, and blacks. Textile designers are coming up with new lines each season, and you may be one of the first to grab them up for your home. Mix bold prints and subtle neutrals with greige in tweed, cottons, and micro-fibers fabrics. 4.) Use greige as a background: Instead of using greige as the main focal point of the room, consider using it as gentle backdrops of color. Pair up a vibrant colored piece of artwork and choose colors from this piece around the room. Greige walls and drapery will seem to disappear in the vibrant colored room. Greige can be warm or it can be cool. Warm greige has a yellow undertone and should join colors in the warm family. Similarly for cool greige with blue undertones, pair this with a room that would have turquoise or lilac for example. Whatever your color style, there is a place for greige in your home. From the ceiling to the baseboards use your imagination to paint walls and furniture in varying shades of this gorgeous neutral. During different seasons, change out accessories in different colors and see how greige will magically blend with them all! Freshome reader's do you have the color greige in any of your home décor? Do you use it as the dominant color in your space or add pops of color to jazz up your space? Share with us, we'd love to hear your comments. Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !

Impressive Floating Residence with Charming Country Details Posted: 11 Nov 2010 01:46 AM PST This unique project known as “Green Home & Tender” comes from Marc Even and is just one of many custom “floating home” projects that his company has designed. Here is the description of the building from the architect: “Both main and guest homes are built on state of the art concrete floats with concrete planters and built-in concrete accent walls. The balance of their homes were requested to be kept very simple, utilizing a mix of commercial/industrial with rough sawn reverse board and bat siding to give the home a country feel. The interior is very open with walls that do not go higher than 7′ and floors made of re-claimed 1′x6′ sanded and sealed Ship Lap Fir. The Stained Glu-Lam ceiling is at 9′-6″ with spiral ducting, corrugated galvanized metal with wood accents on the perimeter, and mono-point lighting. The owners selected an Artesian Finish concrete product that is used on floors, walls, see through direct vent fireplace, and kitchen countertops. Other elements of the homes include: a glass tile shower in the master bath, upper lighting to accent the roof, a second deck galvanized rail with hot tub, and a private front courtyard with a storage shed, connecting the main home to the tender via a walkway.” Dear Freshome readers, would you go for a house-on-water design, rather than a traditional home?

Simply Beautiful Musical Piece of Furniture : The Glissando Posted: 11 Nov 2010 12:37 AM PST Fresh designs are inspired by looking beyond an area of expertise. This is the case for a beautiful piece of furniture called “The Glissando“. Jon Goulder imagined a credenza that was musical, so he created the Glissando, which visually mimics the glide from one pitch to another in music. A lot of work went into making these beautiful pieces and there are only 12 of them available. Handmade with attention to every detail, this credenza comes in two versions of colour and material: rock maple or American black walnut. Stainless steel legs sustain the beautifully crafted pieces, but they can be powder coated in colour, for an adventurous feel. It looks splendid, it almost sings out loud through harmony in design, but I bet it`s hard to dust.
