Original Architecture Dominating its Surroundings: East 11th Street Building

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 05:46 AM PST

East 11th Street Building was designed by Bercy Chen Studio and is located in Austin, Texas. With a highly original architecture, inspired by the geology of the  “Enchanted Rock” area in Texas, the structure is truly imposing in its environment. The building has a total of three floors, the first of which has a more commercial purpose, being divided into a boutique shop and a music store. The second level hosts offices while the third is reserved for residential flats. Each floor comes with terraces and balconies, in the shape of cantilevered volumes which increase this building’s unique appearance. We’ve also uploaded two videos for a better understanding of the project. The first one is a general view of the building which dominates the street, while the second is a sneak peek of the office floor. -via Platforma Aruqitectura

Cool “Lost in Sofa”, the Black Hole of Small Objects

Posted: 07 Nov 2010 10:52 AM PST

This comfy armchair design comes from Japanese architect Daisuke Motogi and is called “Lost in Sofa”. As its unusual name suggests, the chair has the ability to “lose” objects. Meaning that it allows its users to insert various items into it, such as notebooks, phones or the remote control, up to the point when one can not see them anymore. This is possible due to the numerous small fluffy squares that make up the chair’s exterior.  The crazy idea hit the designer after noticing how small things easily get lost under or inside the sofa and are not to be found for years. So why not create something that would serve this original purpose? We don’t know about you guys, but we find this armchair idea highly functional, witty and intriguing. We wonder if small naughty pets could fit in there…
