Vintage Modern Double-Height Loft in Vancouver Creatively Designed by TheMACNABS Posted: 28 Nov 2014 01:46 AM PST TheMACNABS have recently come together with all their handy friends and family to create what they are calling a true Vintage Modern double height loft in Vancouver's industrial loft land. The Mecca loft building is located in Mt Pleasant's up and coming Brewery Creek district. This 1350 sq/ft loft is one of the rare ones which includes; 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a roof top patio, a secret door to a hidden office, and a sweet view of Grouse Mountain. Having been pregnant with their first, Katie and Jordan Macnab, had to think about the future when designing the functionality of the space without losing any cool factor. That being said, they definitely still wanted to keep it industrial and lofty and worry about baby proofing later. They a ton of reclaimed barn board they located at Western Reclaimed wood corp for the feature wall, window trim, various light fixtures, baby barn door, side table and the large dining table. They employed industrial light fixtures from Ikea, living green wall by GreenStems, couch by Van Gogh. The floor is original polished concrete from 1995, when the building was built for artist live/work buyers. The color scheme is simply white on gray and warmed up with the reclaimed barn board. The Master bedroom is situated in the upper loft and is open towards the main level, as are most Vancouver lofts. The nook was designed to set the bed into the wall and showcase the art piece (which was a wedding gift ) from Linzy Arnott. Complex Modern Villa Embracing Its Lively Surroundings in Utrecht, The Netherlands Posted: 27 Nov 2014 03:11 PM PST The scenic naturalness of F.L. Wright, the openness of Mies van der Rohe and the tactile materiality of Zumthor stood at the basis of The Dune Villa in Utrecht, The Netherlands. According to HILBERINKBOSCH Architects, the site is unique in the Netherlands: “dense vegetation towards the street, a large open space at the front and an open pine forest at the back of the plot“. The complex modern villa is made up of different volumes, each taking in the richness of the landscape. A cultivated courtyard adds up to the healthy living environment this project inspires. The color nuances in the mix of the bricks, beige, orange and green reflect the pine tree forest, while the colour of the applied concrete is derived from the neighboring dune sand.  Naturally, this palette can also be observed indoors. The main areas of the residence, such as the living room, kitchen, office, master bedroom, roof terrace and library, are situated on the first floor. This establishment provides the best views towards the forest. The guestrooms and the pool are situated in the dune and on the ground level of the courtyard. The pool is enclosed on three sides with large glass sliding doors. Brussels-based sculptor Xavier Puente Vilardell gives us some pretty interesting artistic pieces to admire. He specializes in sculpting and carving modern design lines in pine wood to offer an ever-present feeling of  distorted reality to inspiration-hungry minds. The sculptor’s twisted and curled shapes carved in pine tree trunks reflect an artistic search for the organic seen through his eyes. Interacting with each piece of wood, the artist sculpts feelings that remain carved into the pine wood: “My work is the result of a very deep and sincere feeling. It lets matter find its own expression though a passionate interaction with the artist.
