| Elegant Self-Assembly IO Chair Designed for Introspection and Daydreaming Posted: 07 Nov 2014 01:22 AM PST
Each owner is meant to have the opportunity to develop a creative connection with the IO Chair. In the six-step assembly of the chair, one sees and feels its creation. Made from bent plywood and flat panels, it is easily assembled with just nine bolts. "The self-assembly system allows you to take part in the process of the construction of the chair. When you put the chair together, you create a deeper connection and ownership to your chair," explains its designer. In spite of the self-assembly process, most often associated with mass-production, the piece maintains its artistic integrity. Adding another layer of signature identity, the chair will be crafted by an artisanal Tuscan fabricator. | Dreamy Lakeside Modern Chalet in Quebec’s Forested Landscape Posted: 06 Nov 2014 02:07 PM PST Can you imagine yourself living in a modern chalet in Quebec? If you answered yes, this exemplary modern cottage located near Lake Champlain, in Quebec, Canada. Placed just a few feet away from the American border at the height of the Phillipsburg Bird Sanctuary, the Chalet Lac Champlain was designed by Boom Town to complement the natural surroundings: “The vertical circulation in the cottage creates views both on the cliff, on which the building almost leans, and the lake; thinly veiled by tree trunks.” According to the architects, “the landscape is composed of two plateaus separated by a 10 meters sheer cliff and of a gentle slope access to the lake; a rare privilege for this area. This landform offers a wonderful sight line to the west facing this vast lake.” Shaped to resemble a comfy observation post for the natural surroundings, the modern cottage is spacious and bright. Rising three stories high, it blends in with the neighboring tree trunks, visually inviting them inside. large sliding doors keep a permanent connection to the refreshing outdoors. Windows here and there frame green views and flood the light and dark interiors. Photographed by Angus McRitchie, the home presents itself as a peaceful sanctuary for a relaxing lifestyle in the middle of nature. “Two large terraces, on the superior level on the south side allow the occupants to live in the landscape and to pursue their contemplation. Those terraces induce segmentation of the volumes already separated by a subtle offset between the south, north and central parts (where the stairs are). This play in the volume is accentuated by color variation or by installing wooded covering.” Isn’t this modern chalet in Quebec a dream? | Modern Home in Sweden Accessing Stunning Sea Views and Rocky Hillscapes Posted: 06 Nov 2014 08:07 AM PST Within a concrete shell punctuated by large glass openings, this home built in a peaceful location boasts timeless materials chosen by architects Gert Wingårdh to create comfort and ease. An open floor plan ensures a continuation of spaces creating a stunning routine maze by the sea. We know why houses are getting smaller, and it seems right to say that sometimes 3 meter high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows can create the illusion of an abundance of space. The minimalist home elongates outdoors, where a spacious 400 square foot wooden deck guides your steps to the infinity edge pool and your gaze to the sea beyond. Located on Fragile Valla Bay in Särö, the modern home in Sweden gathers 289 square meters on two levels on a plot measuring 4,220 square meters. Concrete and wood were adjoined to shape a perfect blend of cold and hot. This mirrors the weather outside in a continuous circle. With a south-west orientation and a fully glazed facade, the home invites the sun to act as the main entertainment system at sunset, providing endless unique moments to anchor you in the present.
